Having watched John Kerry throw away the 2004 election with a timid and themeless pudding of a campaign while the Rovians assassinated his character, it's hard not to see disturbing signs of a repeat of that disaster in the Obama campaign.
The Obama theme all along has been change, but now McCain and his absurd running mate have clambered aboard that bandwagon, so Obama's message has to be refined, ideally in such a way that it can be boiled down to another equally simple catch phrase.
He already has the phrase. He used it in Denver and it was the most electrifying moment of his speech.
"ENOUGH!"
"ENOUGH!" It's an umbrella for everything. It taps into the free-floating rage that permeates the electorate, and it brings us back to the issues that the McCain campaign is so eager to avoid. It gives Obama (and Biden, and all of their surrogates) a showcase for expressing anger and outrage at appropriate targets without going anywhere near the gutter. It takes the focus off of personalities and back onto where the country's been and where it's going.
ENOUGH tax breaks to the wealthiest one percent while you're told that you're whining when you can't afford to pay four dollars a gallon for gasoline.
ENOUGH stalling on health care, a subject that neither John McCain or Sarah Palin even mentioned at their convention.
ENOUGH making us less safe by fighting the wrong war in the wrong place, while bin Laden remains at large.
ENOUGH putting our soldiers in harm's way because our leaders can't admit their mistakes.
ENOUGH secret meetings with energy companies that lead to record profits for them and skyrocketing energy prices for you.
ENOUGH denial of global warming.
ENOUGH sending your jobs overseas.
ENOUGH mortgaging our children's future.
ENOUGH hiring unqualified people who are unable to deal with a disaster when it comes.
ENOUGH with leaders who think they're above the law. ENOUGH trashing of the Constitution.
ENOUGH treating the core principles of this country like they mean nothing.
ENOUGH exploitation of fear. ENOUGH attacking your patriotism if you dare to question one of their policies. ENOUGH breeding hatred by dividing this country into red states and blue states instead of bringing us all together as the United States.
ENOUGH spin, enough lies, enough corruption.
ENOUGH distractions about idiocies like that big 'lipstick on a pig' controversy.
ENOUGH ignorance, enough arrogance, enough incompetence.
The American people have had ENOUGH of all of it.
Enough people are furious enough about what has happened to this country over the past eight years to elect Barack Obama in a landslide, but they want a candidate who shares their outrage. "ENOUGH!" is a mantra for the moment, a rallying cry directly descended from Network's "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore." It invites audience participation at every campaign stop. There's something cathartic about screaming it in unison: "ENOUGH!!!!!!!"
So, to sum up, ENOUGH Democratic wimpery. ENOUGH fear of spilling Republican blood. ENOUGH with the unremovable gloves.
"ENOUGH!" is enough.

apparently, it's not enough yet...the stupid people of this country will elect another Republican. Every country deserves the leaders they elect....and if 8 years of Bush-Cheney is not enough for this country then the US most certainly deserves McCain-Palin.
Great post, GREAT!!!
If you look really closely, our elected officials and the MO of this administration reflects the American people. WE are mortgaging our children's future thinking we need the latest iphone more than we need healthcare and then whine (on our iphones) about the mess the republicans got us into.
The truth is, we the people are as guilty as the Bush adminstration...70% of us (not me) supported the war in Iraq. 70% of us weren't paying attention. And we still aren't, we're too busy emailing pictures of Palin in a bathing suit and discussing lipstick on pigs.
ENOUGH thinking one vote will change anything. It's time to change our own behavior rather than calling on everyone else to change theirs.
I don't see any Obama ads.....I live in MO. Only false McCain ads.
ENOUGH.
problem while people keep doing what they are doing with no accountability. Dont get me wrong, its not wrong to be rich, or to dream of being rich. Its the American dream! But, the American dream was not initially a dream of instant riches. It was a dream of HARD WORK to EARN a better life.
Everything went wrong when people started manipulating numbers to get more money. The limits were removed, the sky was the limit. They stopped trying to EARN a better life. They started taking short cuts. They werent held accountable, which led to others wanting instant riches into thinking accountability would never occur. Unfortunately, accountability has to happen. Living large by fleecing others hurts us all.
We have just lost sight of “enough is enough”. No house is large enough. Nothing is enough. People need to stop shopping and put our houses back in order. Congress must work to help Americans who have been hurt by questionable practices. The bankruptcy law is written to help the same companies which led us down this slippery slope. They were rewarded for what? Living large? We will just move along and pay for their mistakes with our tax dollars? Someone is responsible. Who will be held accountable?
Great post, you should make sure your post reaches the Obama Campaign for the greater good it would do the USA and the entire world.
Well done. It's amazing that the MSM didn't mention the McCain adoption of the "Change" mantra. I agree, O has to hit back hard, often and without mercy. There are a lot of people - both well-off and not - that are fed up with all this nonsense. The majority of the world is nervous about McCain continuing Bush 'foreign policy' aka SLASH and BURN. And here, rational Americans cannot possibly want the same domestic policies that have gutted our nation's economy, morale and future. Unreal. I agree, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Absolutely....ENOUGH is ENOUGH! Let's hear McCain talk about something other than his POW days.
And I really want to hear what Sarah Palin has to say regarding all the problems facing the Country. After all, not all of us can walk out the front door and shoot a Moose for dinner.
Why wait for others to start it? Let's start putting up our own signs. One word: "Enough!" Banners on freeway overpasses come to mind. Shoe polish on the rear window. Hand-painted signs in the front yard. It's time to let the country know how we feel.
This a brilliant idea - one that mccain and his merry band of copy-cats will never be able to hijack.

Did you send this to the Obama team? I'm sure they would like to read this?
This reminds me of Vicente Fox's campaign mantra in the 2000 Mexican presidential election, when every time PRI candidate Labastida would open his mouth with a comment like "When I am President, we will..." and Fox would cut him off repeatedly in the debates with demands of "No manana... Hoy" (Not tomorrow, Today...) That phrase "HOY" became a mantra repeated over and over again in the Mexican media markets and was the turning point that won him the election.
ENOUGH!
This is a good idea as it refines and focuses the message, adds a bit of anger and indignation that most Americans feel about the failures of the past 8 years, and still preserves the change theme. It also lends itself to very good ad concepts. For example, a simple chain of clips over dark/ominous music, starting with Bush, Cheney, McCain, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz touting the Iraq war ("It'll be a cakewalk," "Iraq will pay for the war with it's oil," "the war will be over in a few weeks," "we'll be greeted as liberators," "the insurgency is in its last throes,") followed by several recent McCain clips ("100 years in Iraq," "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran") abruptly fading to black, music cut, and the word "ENOUGH" then coming on the screen, fading out and replaced with either "Vote change. Vote Obama" or simply "Obama/Biden '08."
There are many possible variations on this. A simple list of words on a screen, for example, with appropriately intense music in background (Katrina, Iraq, Valerie Plame, No Bid Contracts, Secret Energy Council Meetings, Abramoff Lobbyist Scandal, U.S. Attorney Firings, Signing Statements, Financial Crises, Housing Crises, Gasoline Prices,...ENOUGH...Obama/Biden '08.
Obama is the one who stated ENOUGH speaking for so many of us. On this day of tragic events people are scratching their heads as they wake up to the evil of those monsters who have trashed this great land.
i thibk the "enough" campaign is a brilliant and simple idea. obama needs to come out with a series of ads around this theme. the media would pick it up and it eloquently captures the sentiment obama is trying to proffer. i like it.
Well, we'll see if we've had enough, I've had about enough of ignorant people who know nothing about history, about economics, but think that we live in the land of Oz. We will get the president we deserve, why do people think that republicans care about the future, when they only care about not aborting a child, but care very little about making sure that child is nurtured and cared for properly. The latest right wing talking point I've heard is how you can trust Palin because she's shown by having her child that she walks the walk of pro- life! That qualifies her to be a heartbeat away from being president, why hasn't anyone discussed her education, her knowledge base, oh I forgot, we live in the land of Oz!
