No More Mr. Nice Guy

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

"The McCain campaign continues to level dishonest attacks on Barack Obama's integrity and patriotism," [foreign policy adviser Susan] Rice said, adding that Americans were tired of "Karl Rove's say anything, do anything politics." Rice also accused McCain of trying to "mislead the American people in order to obscure his own record of failed policy judgments." -- Seth Colter Walls, The Huffington Post, August 20

They "continue to level dishonest attacks"? Well, maybe that's because it continues to work, while the only thing you disgracefully spineless wimps seem able to do in response is calmly observe that they're doing it. Americans are sick of Karl Rove's scum? Really? They sure seem to keep guzzling it down. McCain's trying to "mislead the American people"? Oh, no! Say it ain't so!

Four years ago Americans were desperate to be rid of George W. Bush. Not only could the Democratic convention have safely eviscerated him, the country was waiting for it to happen. Instead, the party offered barely a peep of criticism and wasted four days lionizing John Kerry's Vietnam service, then sat there helplessly gaping as Rove and his ghouls turned that service into a liability, allowing the race to be close enough for them to steal another election and give the worst American to ever hold power four more years to continue his devastation of the country.

And now, those four years later, Americans DESPISE this hijacker of the presidency like they've never personally hated a politician. The nation's contempt is the only thing Bush has ever honestly earned. He is loathed for his incompetence, his ignorance, and his arrogance, and John McCain is wearing a neon sign saying "MORE OF THE SAME." If that doesn't make the Democrats - not just Barack Obama, but dozens if not hundreds of his surrogates - feel safe enough to go on a rampage against those who are destroying the future of the country as we've known it, then please, let's stop pretending the party stands for anything. If that Democratic convention next week isn't a Republican bloodbath leaving the violent nasty prick who publicly called the wife he cheated on his first wife with a "cunt" writhing on the floor, then it's way past time for the party to go the way of the Whigs.

This isn't a game. It's life or death for America as we know it, and if that isn't worth fighting for as viciously as necessary, then the wrong people are on the front lines. If Obama can't work up some genuine outrage about what's happened to this country over the past eight years and demonstrate a willingness -- no, an eagerness -- to do whatever it takes to stop this grotesquerie from continuing for another four, then maybe the superdelegates should take it away from him and give it to Hillary. Say what you will about the Clintons, but they're killers, and nothing less is needed now.

Hey, Barack. I seem to remember you saying, "If they bring knives, we'll bring guns." Well, buddy, unholster those fucking guns already and start firing. Otherwise, stop wasting our time, stop taking our money and stop raising our false hopes.

My husband and I had a conversation last night that sounded like this post. You're absolutely right.

If the democrats can't win the White House and do serious damage in the Senate and Congress, then the party needs to fold up its tents and go home. The "progressive" party is a bunch of weak, wimppy, spineless fools as far as I'm concerned. I mean- Joe Leiberman? Committee chair? WTF?

We need Obama to act like a progressive, not "repub lite".

Thank you for speaking the truth!

Wow!! Well said! I have been wondering if anyone out there had the guts to say it.

I am afraid that the whole convention is going to be a kiss kiss or kazoo blow out of nothingness!! I am tired of nice. I want the truth about the country and Bush/Cheney and McCain to come out in the open. I want the POW s$i@ to be debunked. I want McSame to be shown for what he is.

This should be on posters.

Read Rossmiller's column! Obama has now started leveling well thought out ads based on FACT, not LIES, and he's getting hammered by the same people who've been crying for him to fight back. "Oh, he's just another politician!" "Oh, he's slinging mud like McCain". ENOUGH ALREADY!!! First, Obama is a street fighter and will fight back...HIS WAY! This is not another rich white New England Liberal like Kerry or even an intellectual who speaks over everybody's head (forgive me as I really do think Gore is tremendous). This is somebody who survived Chicago politics and knows how to fight back...but fight back SMART. Not flaying about slinging mud, but focusing light on the obvious facts that will sink McCain. Add an attack dog VP such as BIden, or even Hillary (though Bill is WAY TOO MUCH OF A LIABILITY!) and I think we've got a good shot at winning this thing.

Oh, and to all you "lifelong Democrats" who say they'll vote for McCain the fall. YOU ARE NOT LIFELONG DEMOCRATS!!! You are stil alive and you are now voting against everything you ever voted for in the past! You are nothing more than the modern day equivalent of "Reagan Democrats" with a little racism thrown in for good measure. Though maybe you'll come to your senses...if you don't TO HELL WITH YOU!

"This is somebody who survived Chicago politics ..."

This is irrelevant because Chicago politics are dominated by Democrats and he did not have to defeat a MSM-supported Republican candidate like McCain.

His survival lessons in Chicago politics would help him be re-elected in Chicago. If he is sincere about representing Democratic prinicples, it is time for him to drop the nice guy act.

Democrats who know "how to fight back" and take elections away from Republicans are not the ones who spend a lot of time listening to Bob Shrum.

Obama's Chicago-style politics of being a nice guy because Daley-is-behind-you-and-its-a-sure-thing isn't enough to do it.

Great post....unfortunately I have yet to see that fire from any Democrat. The Republicans can feign outrage over a simple funding proposal and raise hell over taxes and guns, but the Dems fail to make a peep over such issues as telecom immunity, defense contract fraud, abuses of power in the justice dept, etc. If Bush was a Democrat, he would have been impeached 5 years ago...and the Dems would have helped.

Stop with the doom and gloom. I watched EMILY's List Discussion on the Political Attitudes of Women
today on C-Span and it solidified what I have been thinking for weeks now.....the polls are being manipulated to make it look like a much closer race than it actually is and the press and pundits are eating it up. This race is not close and it will be even less close when Obama wins on 4 Nov 2008

I agree wholeheartedly

And if BOTH sides consider it as a "game",
I'm for a physical march on the Capitol
with the express reason of removing
the Mace of power from the People's House.

They are NOT it's keeper, if they all consider it a "game"..

Onward.

and look what the viciousness of the republicans have gotten us. stop demanding Obama become more like them and instead start commanding they become more like him by your vote.

You said it. Either call the Republicans out, or start playing their game better than them. Passivity doesn't seem a solution.

This is right. If the Dems continue to let themselves get clobbered without fighting back, then they deserve to lose.

Plus it will prove Nader right.

they didn't lose because they didn't fight dirty. they lost because they allowed themselves to be defined by the republicans. and if he lowers himself to their level. they will have defined him.as for nader he is irrelevant because if he cared why hasn't he stepped up to the plate on the issues he claims to care about.
