The art work is good. I don't know that Ferraro was speaking to affirmative action so much as she was describing the free ride she feels the media is giving Obama.
And there are a lot of people who agree for the most part.
I mean look at Edwards, when he was in the race there was a big deal about how much he spent on a haircut.
The same media than can dig that out and make an issue of it cannot find anything to say about Obama?
Take this argument for example: much has been said about Hillary's 3 a.m. ad. In a NYT op ed piece a Proffessor Patterson (who's black by the way) discusses how he thinks the ad was racist and draws comparisons between that and the film "The Birth of a Nation" which was a kkk propaganda film.
This is largely based off of the fact that there appears to be no black children in the ad. Patterson goes on to describe several other weak jumping off points.
Wether the ad was or was not intended to appeal to racial hate or fear is a subject for debate.
But was is also subject to debate, but appears not to be debateworthy is the fact that when Obama speaks to a black crowd his cadence, body language, and rhetoric are all different than when he speaks to a white crowd. In addition to this, he is garnering almost all of the black vote and won Mississippi almost exclusively with the black vote.
So the NYT and Proffessor Patterson and no doubt others, feel that an ad that must be taken way out of context and have many suppositions, assumptions, and inuendos applied to it to see the racial angle, is worthy of discussion, and by the way is enough evidence to support a claim of racism by the Clinton camp.
These same people or organizations see no reason to question Senator Obama about his change of character when in front of a predominantly black crowd, and the fact that he is getting nearly 100% of the black vote.
This is what Ferraro means when she says that Obama is benefitting from being black. Other candidates are probed and attacked by the media for any and every little thing the media can turn up, yet there are very real and hard questions the media could be putting to Obama and to black voters about their intentions.
But most news agencies are too busy crucifying Ferraro for bringing this issue up.
