NASA Expedition 30 Video: Earth Like You've Never Seen It Before

Posted: 04/23/2012 10:53 pm

NASA has released a spectacular video, recorded by the Expedition 30 crew aboard the International Space Station, that gives us Earth-bound residents a view of Earth unlike any other.

The video highlights man-made, astronomical, and meteorological features in a series of time-lapse photographs set to Howard Blake's other-worldly song "Walking in the Air."

The video includes city lights over Europe and the U.S., colorful views of both the Aurora Borealis and the Aurora Australis, stars over the southern U.S., a setting moon, and a blue comet (Lovejoy). From a weather perspective, there are some great shots of cloud formations from a different perspective than the typical satellite image, along with the sparkling nighttime thunderstorms from outer space.

The video would make a great recruiting tool for astronauts!

This movie is a 30-second W O W! Look at all the petty "problems" passing underneath. Somehow, they don't seem all that important anymore.

Earth, she's a beauty. Loved aurora borealis, aurora australis, and milky way, plus the music in the background seemed like a perfect choice. Very nice.

"You can fly?" "No, jump good."

I wasn't aware they needed any recruiting tool for astronauts. Who wouldn't jump at a chance to go into space?

If I were to win a lottery of 20+ million, I would be happy to spend it all on just one chance to go into space. And I'd be happy upon return, for seeing the face of God!

It is amazing how delicate the atmosphere of the planet looks from that aspect. And you can see the auroras, oxygen in green, nitrogen in blue and red. It's gorgeous.

The other feature is how lit up Europe, the U.S. and India and China are now. That is incredible - the spread of electricity.
