Yeah, I love how the post office is a (semi) private enterprise, but all the employees are still governmental employees, who are simply being more screwed out of their other benefits than most other government employees
Why are the lines soooooooo long at my United States Post Office? Because the Postal Service is chronically short-handed. Why short-handed? Underfunded. Why underfunded? (Semi-)Privatized? Why (Semi-)Privatized? Because free market (self-designated) zealots want to privatized ALL government services ... the kleptocrats' rapturous dream.
Democracy is a public good, not a private business opportunity.
Postal service is about as fundamental a government service as there is. The Founding Fathers got some things very right. John Adams knew democracy requires an educated electorate. Ben Franklin understood the critical role of being connected, of the unimpeded flow of public and private information, knowledge and opinions.
Perpetual war is further debilitating all of the things our government is supposed to do for us, from postal service to public education to national security to personal health. The P.O. should be supported by us all, as a public good, not as just another pay-its-own-way enterprise.
I'm ready for my Post Office to be a public service again. Oh, and while I'm making a "wish-list," please may I have a revitalized Spirit of the American Revolution?

Part of the magic of the Bush era is circular logic. They insist that government is inept. Then they ``prove'' their point by being inept (See: ``Brownie,'' FEMA, New Orleans; etc.).
Then, when they screw up, they say: ``See? Didn't we tell you government was inept?''
