For his book, The Hot House: Life Inside Leavenworth Prison, Earley spent an entire year as a reporter inside the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan. His book, Circumstantial Evidence: Death Life and Justice in a Southern Town, helped free a wrongly accused man from Alabama’s death row.
