Ms. Caldwell is President of Washington Area Women’s Foundation, the only donor-supported public foundation solely focused on improving the lives of women and girls in the Washington metropolitan area by leveraging collective giving to foster increased philanthropy. Ms. Caldwell retired from Bank of America In November 2007, where she was President of Community Development Banking. She is an executive with 20 years of sales and management experience. Ms. Caldwell has worked in community development for the past decade and has been an innovator in affordable housing and socially-responsible investing. As President of Community Development Banking at Bank of America, she lead a team of more than 200 people who originated and managed a $5 billion portfolio of loans and equity investments for real estate developments focused on revitalizing urban and rural communities.

Ms. Caldwell joined Bank of America in 1997 as a community development lending executive in Washington, D.C., for the East and Mid-West regions. She later was appointed equity executive for Community Development Banking, where she managed equity and tax credit investments in funds and projects supporting economic development, historic preservation and affordable housing throughout the United States. She also oversaw investments in venture capital funds targeting businesses owned by ethnic minorities or women, and companies located in low and moderate-income neighborhoods. Prior to joining Bank of America, Caldwell enjoyed a 10 year career in finance and consulting, spending time at Citicorp and Ernst & Young.

She is a founding member of Washington 100, a group of more than 100 women and men who each give The Women’s Foundation $10,000 over two years, resulting in more than $1 million to invest in women and girls. Ms. Caldwell serves as Chair for the Low Income Investment Fund and on the national board of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation. Locally, she sits on the board of Cultural Development Corporation, a nonprofit that operates Source Theatre and Flashpoint Gallery and creates housing and performance space for local artists. Previously, Ms. Caldwell was a member of the Community Development Advisory Committee for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.

Ms. Caldwell received her MBA from the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland College Park and holds a BA in sociology and urban planning, also from the University of Maryland.

Last week, the front-page news from the U.S. Census Bureau was alarming: nearly 40 million Americans are poor -- an increase of 2.6 million people in 2008. For a family of four, that means making ends meet on less than $22,025 a year.
