Dear Phyllis,

I heard Mercury is Retrograde. Does that mean I should hold off signing the contract to buy a new bakery business?

Signed, Waiting on the Messenger

Dear Waiting Baker,

You are one savvy cookie to consider Mercury Retrograde! It will be from January 11th and February 2nd. Yes...since Mercury Retrograde is famous for igniting misunderstandings and changes of mind, if you can manage to put off signing important documents or making major decisions until it goes direct on February 2nd, it might make life easier for you.

But life has to go on even when Mercury is Retrograde. I discourage you or anyone from delaying something that is ready to go for fear that Mercury retro will screw it up. In fact, sometimes the act of holding something off creates it's own kind of problems.

If you are raring to go, sign your contracts with an understanding that matters might need to be tweaked as your business unfolds.

Mercury Retrograde can also ignite travel problems and technical difficulties of every variety. Anyone traveling between now and Feb. 2nd would be smart to prepare a Plan B in case their trip gets tripped up. And for God sakes, everyone should be clear in their communications as what we assume as obvious to others might not be.

But Mercury Retrograde isn't really about missed appointments and delayed flights. It's really about rethinking our recent decisions and retracing our recent steps to make sure all is as is should be.

Mercury Retrograde actually buys us extra time to review what we've recently done to make sure it works. This Mercury Retrograde in particular offers some very clever, inventive energies that could awaken us to some really good ideas. Any problems that do pop up might be pointing to better ways of achieving our plans.

Holding off making a final decision about your new bakery might help you cook up an even better deal for your business.

Mercury Retrograde is also a terrific time for inner reflection. Its vibes are just right for checking in with ourselves to make sure we are genuinely "on board" with things we've agreed to.

This Mercury retrograde traces through the signs Capricorn and Aquarius. Matters of authority and friendships might need the most review.

Those born between January 11th -17th, July 11th -17th, April 11th-17th, and October 11th -17th might experience the most Mercury Retrograde surprises.

HERE'S WHERE YOU MIGHT FEEL MERCURY RETROGRADE's "RETHINK -IT" EFFECTS:

ARIES: career, authority and friendships
TAURUS: foreign, education, legal matters, career
GEMINI: joint finances, loans, travel, foreign legal affairs
CANCER: relationships, joint finances, intimacy issues
LEO work, health, relationships
VIRGO; love, kids, work, employees, health
LIBRA; home, family, love, kids
SCORPIO: contacts, travel, home family matters
SAGITTARIUS: money, contracts, sibling and neighbor matters
CAPRICORN: personal choices, appeal, money
AQUARIUS: behind the scenes operations, spiritual, intuitive matters, personal appeal.
PISCES: friendships, associates, behind the scene operations, spirituality.

"What To Do When Mercury Is In Retrograde"

Ummm ... realize that the planets orbit the Sun and not the Earth ? (see : Copernicus)

What I have found to be true is that three days around mercury going retrograde(when its "standing still) and three days when its going Direct, is when you do not want to sign contracts or implement major changes in your life, and that during the period you do not want to make changes unless you are forced to, ie; its a time when you shouldn't act but a time when you can Re-act
. What I notice in the 90's was that the right wing would go after Clinton during Retrograde but it wouldn't work for them, he would react to their threat and they would look like fools in the public eyes.
Retrograde can be a good time to fix things that are broken. But if your born during mercury retrograde all bets are off and its agood time for you to do anything you want, these rules do not apply.
