Geert Wilders, Marked For Death: A Muslim's Response

(172) Comments | Posted May 23, 2012 | 5:19 PM

The inside back-cover of Geert Wilders' anti-Islam book, "Marked for Death," says it all: "Expelled from Britain, banned from Indonesia, denounced by the UN Secretary General ... Wilders is unbowed and unapologetic."

After having read his book, another word to describe Wilders comes to mind: uninformed.

Israel and Iran Need Diplomacy, Not Destruction

(62) Comments | Posted March 8, 2012 | 3:57 PM

Last week, my local library threw a children's party to celebrate Dr. Seuss's 108th birthday. My 3-year-old son, an American, played with an adorable Irani girl, while another father wearing a Jewish yarmulke walked in with his toddler son. As our children played together, a dispute arose over a toy....

The Islamic Solution to Stop Domestic Violence

(269) Comments | Posted March 5, 2012 | 10:31 AM

Critics incorrectly allege that Islam command's husband's to beat their wives, often citing the Quran verse 4:34. Unfortunately, like any Muslim man who harms his wife, critics miss the keen wisdom in verse 4:34 that actively pre-empts domestic violence.

In Virginia, I provide pro bono legal support to victims of...

Franklin Graham and the Art of Misinformation

(56) Comments | Posted February 23, 2012 | 11:54 AM

The anti-Muslim base in America is no stranger to promoting misinformation about Islam, Muslims and even President Obama. During Franklin Graham's Feb. 21 "Morning Joe" appearance, nothing changed.

Graham reiterated the oft-repeated claim that Muslims are persecuting Christians because "Under shariah law, a Muslim can take a Christian's property without...

America's 'Muslim' Problem

(49) Comments | Posted December 28, 2011 | 2:16 PM

When will America stop validating religious discrimination?

On Oct. 27, 1838, Missouri Governor Lilburn W. Boggs issued an official order declaring, "The Mormons must be treated as enemies, and must be exterminated or driven from the state if necessary for the public peace." On mayoral Election Day Aug. 6, 1855,...

The Facts

Harold Camping predicted the end of the world on May 21, 2011--and then again on Oct. 21, 2011. Kirk Cameron has made a...

Shariah Law: The Five Things Every Non-Muslim (and Muslim) Should Know

(657) Comments | Posted November 4, 2011 | 10:15 AM

1. What does Shariah mean?

Shariah is the law of the Qur'an and literally means "A path to life giving water." In fact, the word Yarrah (i.e. the root of the Hebrew word Torah) means precisely the same thing. Therefore, Shariah is actually ingrained in Abrahamic tradition.

Shariah is...

'Muslim' Nations and The Problem of Christian Persecution

(29) Comments | Posted October 19, 2011 | 1:11 PM

Some so-called "Muslim" nations have a problem.

It is not America, Europe, and no, it is certainly not Israel.

The problem is persecution, and in this case, of Christians. Some fourteen centuries after Prophet Muhammad wrote, "Christians are my citizens, and by God, I hold out against anything that displeases...

She was visibly shaken. Mrs. Braun, our second grade teacher, recounted the day President Kennedy was assassinated. "One day," she concluded, "time will stop for each of you, and history will never be the same." It was a late summer day in 1991.

On a late summer day 10 years...

Do Critics Actually Read the Quran?

(97) Comments | Posted August 10, 2011 | 9:00 PM

Ramadan is upon us -- a time of fasting, charity, prayer ... and fighting off Islamophobia.

Norweigian terrorist Anders Behring Breivik killed 76 innocent people in a demented campaign to destroy Islam. Comedian Bill Maher recently called the Quran a "hate-filled holy book." Evangelical atheist Sam Harris insists,...

My wife reminded me we were running late. I closed an article about Peter King's self-aggrandizing radicalization hearings and grabbed my car keys.

My phone buzzed -- an email from a reader. "I wish Muslims would...

Convert or Die

How would you react if someone sent you a letter demanding you "recant your faith," warning you it's your "last chance," and threatening you that you and your family are on their "hit list?"

Go to the police? Hold that thought.

In a February, 1948 radio broadcast to America,...

The case of the missing Messiah is a mystery that has intrigued countless minds through the ages. Pope Innocent III predicted Christ's return and doomsday in 1284. Muslims, Not Islam, Need Reform

In her recent Wall Street Journal opinion-editorial, Irshad Manji claims that not just Muslims, but the Quran and Islam itself needs reformation. In conflating the two, Manji ignores the possibility that the owner's manual might be fine, while the issues lie with the owner. Manji concludes by assuming,...

I must have missed the Biblical verse where Jesus taught us to burn holy scripture. Terry Jones, however, managed to 'find' this alleged teaching.

And to be sure, while Terry Jones' actions are abhorrent, the extremists who have killed innocent people in response are that much more outrageous. They are...

The crisis in Egypt has re-ignited the debate of whether moderate Islam is a reality or just a show. Political and religious dissatisfaction, especially in the Third World, demonstrate the need for a new leadership philosophy. In an NBC interview shortly after Faisal Shahzad's 2010 arrest, I was asked, "Do...
