It's So Irresponsible That Bill Kristol Can't Be Quiet About War Critics Who Can't Be Quiet For Six Or Nine Months

Bill Kristol has chutzpah: Not only is he unapologetic about pushing the Iraq war for almost four years, now that it's in such a shambles; and not only does he blame the current situation on the poor execution by the administration, not his own failure of vision; and not only has he been agitating for more troops for months, heedless of the will of the people as expressed in the elections — in addition to all that, he thinks anyone who disagrees with him should shut the hell up.

This is what he said on Fox News Sunday about the Democratic Congress:

It's so irresponsible that they can't be quiet for six or nine months and say the president has made a decision, we're not going to change that decision, we're not going to cut off funds and insist on the troops coming back, so let's give it a chance to work. You really wonder, do they want it to work or not?

It is so unbelievable a statement that the mind boggles. The Democrats, in a majority in Congress, many of whom were elected or re-elected on a specifically anti-war stance, should just shut up and give a free pass to Bush on something that contradicts both the express will of the people and the Iraq Study Group, convened specifically to come up with a solution to the Iraq quagmire, after four years of misrepresentations, miscalculations and missteps.

This is a slight contradiction of the position Kristol recently took in Time (thanks to the inexplicable decision to give him yet another platform), where he pouted that "If others think the situation hopeless, they should make the case for withdrawal." Of course, when they do he further pouts that the meanie critics aren't giving the war a chance. This won't be the first time it's noted that Kristol has been consistently wrong on Iraq. Shut up? Now? Good Lord, let's hope not — because if anyone needs challenging, it's clearly Kristol.
