Twilight Movies: Top 10 Reasons Grown Women Love It

Posted: 11/17/11 06:38 PM ET

I went to a university and received a fantastic education. I read the New York Times. I'm a Latin teacher. I'm currently reading "The Aeneid" for fun. BUT... you should know ... I. LOVE.
"Twilight."

I'm definitely Team Edward. I think Bella is a little pathetic and repetitive ... and to be honest, the writing is sometimes so atrocious that I spend more time thinking about how I would have edited each chapter than actually enjoying the mind candy ... but they are each still a delightful piece of fluff, even for an occasionally snobby academic like myself. I've read each book, especially the kiss scenes (insert "tee hee" from under the covers), probably four times.

Even grown, intelligent, cultured women can enjoy and be passionate about a series of books written for teenage girls -- and here is why:

Okay, this is a lame one ... but I mean it in the same way that some women will always love things that are feminine and fantasy: unicorns, sparkles, vampires, werewolves, the hint of danger. It's sexy. It's pretty. We dig it.

You had me until you told me to wait to have sex.

Twilight doesn't do anything for me... romances usually don't. But I will admit to being a Harry Potter and Percy Jackson fan, and I'm in my mid-30's.

I've never cared for this whole Twilight business but my boyfriend is a huge fan. Is that normal? LOL!

Yeah, alot of it is cheesy and I really think they should have chose a different bella but I really fell in love with how they love each other and I totally agree with her about how every woman wants to believe there is one person out there that is their soul mate and will love them that intensely. :)

I just hope when a movie comes out with teenage vampire girls in bras and underwear come out, and your husband wants to go see it and obsess over it, you all don't get pissed!

There are probably 50 teen cheesecake movies for males, for every one that has a hot male body displayed.

Most grown woman I know DON"T like twilight. So maybe a follow up article on why this chick thinks all women are like her?

Haha! Nice!

It's ok if you don't get the movie... but ...guess what ? MILLIONS of grown women around the world do get IT and the success of the movie proves it.

How about ignoring the things you don't like and stop acting all drama queens like these series affect your lifes. Everybody knows vampires don't exist , it's just a guilty pleasure . THE END .
These people go to see those movies once a year to just have some fun . Noone said the movies were Oscars material or the books great. You don't like Twilight ? Well don't watch it but stop acting like you are better than the people who go see it. Twilight books don't come from a real life experience, it's not someone writing her real life experience or biograpthy. That's why it's called FAN TA SY . Get over yourselves .

So sad if you call this fun.

Thank you. You've summed it up perfectly. (This coming from a 50-year-old, mother of three, happily married woman.)

I'm all for a good romance but this isn't it. It is VERY VERY poorly written book.

I see a whole lot of b*tching going on here, but I personally LOVED this article!
You're right, no matter how much today's modern "politically correct" woman wants to deny it, we all have some sort of guilty pleasure we participate in. Whether that be reveling in drama, wanting to lick some abs or, yes, being the damsel in distress. ( Really, people, it's not a dirty word! get over it)

And I agree about most of it being pure fantasy, which is fun because potentially being eaten by vampires just makes our everyday problems seem a little bit easier to take. I also loved the innocence between them and the build up of tension that is literally tangible to the audience. I'm willing to bet that most people under 25 today have NO idea what it's like to feel that kind of sexual tension with someone. And that is a sad sad thing because there's nothing like it in the world!
I agree wholeheartedly, BRING WAITING BACK!!!

I would like Twilight a lot more if Bella had died at some point. Like, really died. I read two books, and all I could think about was how much I hoped the next crisis would lead to her death.

No. Just no. I do not want any of these things. I am a grown woman; I want a grown-up relationship and a grown-up personality.
