As a board member of the United Nations Foundation (UNF) and as UNICEF’s Eminent Advocate for Children and Honorary Chair for the UN Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI), Queen Rania is a staunch defender of children’s right to education. In August 2009, Her Majesty launched 1GOAL, a campaign to promote global education, in partnership with FIFA World Cup 2010 and the Global Campaign for Education. In September 2010, Her Majesty joined the UNF’s Girl UP Campaign as a global advocate, to raise awareness about issues facing girls today.

At home, Queen Rania works to improve the quality of Jordan’s education system. In 2008, Her Majesty launched “Madrasati” (“My School”), a public-private initiative to refurbish Jordan’s public schools. The Jordan Education Initiative has upgraded local schools with computers, while the Queen Rania Teachers Academy and Queen Rania Teachers’ Award for Excellence in Education are modernizing Jordan’s teaching methods and setting higher standards in the teaching profession. In addition to championing cross-cultural and inter-faith dialogue, Her Majesty’s interests include encouraging sustainability throughout the public and private sectors and tackling issues affecting youth.
