Dr. Rebecca Palacios is a Senior Curriculum Advisor for ABCmouse.com Early Learning Academy, a comprehensive educational website for children age 2 through kindergarten. She has served on committees and as a consultant for the National Science Foundation, the Education Development Center, and Scholastic, Inc., and has written various articles on teacher professional development, early childhood education and dual language programs. Dr. Palacios received her National Board Certification in 1997, the first Hispanic in Texas to become National Board Certified and one of the first five teachers in the state to receive the distinction. She served as the Vice Chair of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and was a founding member of the National Board in 1987.

Dr. Palacios recently retired from the Corpus Christi Independent School District after working there for 34 years, where she taught prekindergarten, kindergarten, first and third grades, as well as developed and taught a dual-language curriculum for pre-k students.

Dr. Palacios has won awards including being the first CCISD “Teacher of the Year,” in 1987, and in that year, also introduced President Clinton at a White House ceremony honoring the nation’s first National Board Certified Teachers. Among the awards she has received include the “Y Women in Careers” Award; the Senator Carlos Truan Award of Distinction for “Bilingual Teacher of the Year” from the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; the LULAC “Outstanding Community Member;” the Hispanic Womens’ Network of Texas “Las Estrellas” Award; the United Married Couples Award; and the Roy Miller HS “Alumni of the Year.”
