A nation on prozac, and coke and a flood of other drugs legal and illegal is too anesthetized to care, a half-hearted peace community made up of senior citizens with no teeth, wage slaves working 3 jobs to pay for their broken families, too tired to resist, drunken college students who don't give a damn as long as they are not being called up, a manipulated job market to ensure the uneducated young people have no place to go but into the military, a government fixed for 200 years on building an empire, congress in the pocket of lobbyists, religious zealots who believe the restoration and destruction of Israel will bring back Jesus, oil companies with record profits drooling over the oil fields of Iraq/Iran, billionaire aristocrats riding a Tsunami of greed, manufacturers massive outsourcing to sweat shops,
Hey - look on the bright side.... It's Friday!!! Wooo-hooo!!!

Actually, I think Robert is a little too positive about the situation here in the US these days...
We are well and truly scr*wed!
Until there is an independent investigation into 9/11 and it is exposed as an inside job. The American people and the world will find no justice and no peace. Illegal wars, the destruction of civil liberties and the looting of America all stem from this atrocity against humanity. Never forget 9/11, 9/11 TRUTH NOW!!!

If you truly beleive that this government, along with enough American leaders and obviously some followers conspired to slam four passenger jets into occupied buildings while the workers were having their morning coffee, then I don't understand how you can continue to live in this country.
This is not a matter of "love it or leave it" , it is a matter of integrity on your part I would think.
If you truly beleive this, you should flee to the nearest friendly country.
There were those such as you, who in 1936 realized how corrupt and dangerous the Na-zi regeim would become, and were wise enough to leave before they were hauled away.
You should do the same......or are you just blowing smoke?
Why not, your government conspired to kill many north vietnamese by lying about the "Gulf of Tonkin" incident. A total fabricated lie that led America into the Viet Nam war. American foreign policy is what's wrong with America. Has been since the end of WWII.
Apollonavigator makes a provocative point. I'd never thought of it that way.
One of the simplest reasons I've never believed the conspiracies theories is that the Bush administration failed at so many things out of sheer laziness, shortsightedness, incompetence and neglect. It's just too hard to imagine them pulling off such a colossal conspiracy.
I think the real question is: How much did Dick Cheney know about al Qaeda's plans that summer? How much time did he spend persuading the president not to worry about the intelligence reports coming in from other countries and from our own CIA? Perhaps Cheney thought the attack would be smaller than it turned out being and thought, "Eh... a few hundred dead, too bad. But it would give us a free pass for years." After all, this is the man who decided that if prisoners were found innocent in Guantanamo, the torturing of them should not stop.
I don't think the Bush administration had a hand in 9-11, but I would not be at all surprised if they ignored what they were hearing. And I've always suspected that a President Gore might have prevented it.
A-freaking-men. I have a few acquaintances who like to spout the 9-11 theories and New World Order theories and Obama-turning-the-US-socialist theories and I tell them, if you think the gov't is such a threat to you and yours, why are you still here? The answer? "Why should I leave the country that I love and that my forefathers built?" Which of course means it's not as bad as they're saying. Nothing but smoke blowing.
If 9/11 had not "changed the world as we know it" none of the egregious activities that followed in the Bush Administration could have happened - invasion of two countries, assassinations, patriot act, torture, wiretapping, suspension of habeus corpus, "free speech zones" and massive federal spending on oil and the machinery of war.
To deny the importance of 9/11 in the events of the last 7-8 years would be absurd. When you look at what was suddenly possible and who benefited, it is very difficult to believe that 9/11 was not a false flag event. When you follow the money, the real perpetrators become clear. This was obvious as soon as Afghanistan was targeted, instead of Saudi Arabia where nearly all the alleged hijackers came from.
The plan only needed a small number of people to be in the know. If you doubt this, just look at how many people have access to the truth now but refuse to acknowledge it...
There was no doubt that 9-11, like Pearl Harbor, needed to be avenged,
but Bush had another agenda.
Bush, Cheney, & appointees lied about WMD, aluminum tubes, & Niger Uranium to con Congress into approving an invasion of Iraq, a country that did not have anything to do with 9-11.
In WW-II, in 4 years,
FDR put 13,000,000 men in the fight, beat 3 dictatorships, their leaders dead at the end.
After 7 years of War On Terror,
neither Bush nor Cheney could find Osama Bin Laden, our US reputation is in the gutter, we're still at war, over 4,200 US Soldiers are dead, over 30,000 maimed for the Bush-Cheney arrogance & lies.
AND They ordered Torture, a violation of Federal Law.
Unless Obama's statement that “no one is above the law” is a lie,
Obama must appoint a Special Prosecutor for Bush, Cheney and the appointee lawyers that advocated Torture, violated many Federal Laws, our Constitution & the Geneva Convention on Torture.

Actually It was Joseph Stalin who beat the Germans. The Western front was helpful, but not decisive. Vast majority of WWII battle casualties occurred on the eastern front. US triumphalisim got you where you are in Iraq. Learn history, real history, not disneyland version you are taught in american highschool - this is mainly propaganda.
No it was not Uncle Joe, but Rokossovsky, Zhukov, and Co. who won the victory in the field. Stalin crawled into a vodka bottle during the first weeks of Barbarossa.
But the real heroes of the victory over fascism on the Eastern front were the Russian people.
This comment reflects the crass ignorance we have in the USA ... the western front was an alliance of Canadian, English, French, Polish and American troops; the eastern front, the one that took the most casualties BTW, was Russian.
I agree with JoeBlough. This war has been handed off and passed down just like Vietnam. The dangers and the impacts of being in Iraq are still as important as the first day the U.S. invaded but it seems as if the war is not as "popular" with the press anymore. Maybe we are all just so sick of watching this country spread so much good fortune around the world while so many here still struggle to carry on.

America has spread "good fortune" ? to whom?
The only thing America is spreading is propaganda, arms sales to dictatorships, and Depleted Uranium. Then you pay the victims to keep their mouths shut.
We would be better served for HP to run on the Main Page photos of
the protest demonstrations which took place 6 years ago.
We weren't heard back then.
Proof is this horrific Anniversary and the growing numbers of dead and wounded.
I thought we turned the "wars" off when we voted last November? They have been going on so long that they are just part of America's fabric. Nothing special anymore.
Here is a photo of another Haditha Marine exonerated. Prosecutors went 0-8 on that national disgrace.

Yes, jury nullification is great when you agree with it, isn't it?
