Nothing puts us in quite the mood for a sexy tryst then a classic black and white French flick, preferably with a handsome hero and some killer vintage fashion. Well, now we've hit the motherload. Today, in honor of its 50th anniversary, Jean-Luc Godard's first film, "Breathless," is being re-released in a restored 35-mm print. Funny enough this tour de force was the reason for our fave Huffington Post editor's existence. "My mom saw it in 1960, chopped off all her hair, moved to Paris and met my dad," Anya Strzemien says. The film virtually launched the French New Wave movement and is centered around a brooding Jean-Paul Belmondo as Michel, a chain-smoking, Parisian gangster, and his stylin' American girlfriend, Patricia, played by Jean Seberg. While the storyline is not exactly the strong point, we can't but help saying Je t'aime to Godard's unique ability to capture the mindset of hazy post-adolescence in a way that feels relevant even today. Plus, the gamine fashions rocked by Seberg--think cropped pants, nautical stripes, pleated skirts, and short-shorts (oh, and a pixie haircut that would make Mia Farrow jealous). Here are some pieces to get in the mood for a viewing tonight at the Film Forum!
