Remember when Katie Couric was the talk of the town? Remember how she was touted for breaking the glass ceiling? Remember when she was America's sweetheart? Remember how the women's groups rallied behind her move to become CBS' evening news anchor? Well, after all the hype it came down to her. Just her. Sitting before a camera reading the news. The first week was great, she got phenomenal ratings, but then something funny happened, people stopped watching.
After the millions of dollars spent on marketing her and the bally-ho about Katie's historic new job, it came down to the verdict of the TV audience, and it was swift. Thanks, but no thanks.
Criticism came from all corners of the media. There were cries of sexism but the facts could not be ignored for all the worries about wardrobe, botox, glasses, no glasses, jacket, no jacket, it all came down to, she's plucky perky but they'd rather get their news elsewhere.
As Sarah Palin bobs and weaves questions from the press and constituents, she lobs charges of sexism for questions about her record on earmarks, lobbyist connections, stance on abortion for rape and incest victims, global warming, polar bear hunting, praying gays straight and her veracity about her positions on the Bridge to Nowhere. But is it really sexism or just a sympathy play on the public's emotions because she doesn't have anything to say?
