Charlie Melancon represents the Third Congressional District of Louisiana, which includes much of southeast Louisiana. Melancon was born and raised in Napoleonville, Louisiana, a town of 600 people on the Louisiana bayou. After graduating college, Melancon returned to Napoleonville to raise a family with his wife, Peachy. He owned and ran several small businesses, including an insurance agency and a chain of ice cream shops. Melancon worked for the state’s sugar industry before winning election to the US House in 2004. He is a 2010 Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate.
