I Support the #OccupyWallStreet Protesters

Posted: 10/05/11 12:49 PM ET

To the young men and women who are braving the overreaction of local authorities to raise their voices against the corruption and manipulation of our nation that emanates from Wall Street: I say to you that your presence is making a difference. You are exercising the right every American holds most dear, the right of freedom of expression, and with that expression you are finally getting the attention of the nation.

Wall Street banks got billion-dollar bailouts but the American people get austerity. Fourteen million Americans are out of work. 50 million people don't have health insurance and a million homes a year are lost to foreclosure. Our policies take the wealth of the nation and accelerate it into the hands of the few.

We need a government of the people and for the people. We need a financial system that is of the people and for the people. It is time we take our nation back and take our monetary system back from the big banks.

I recently introduced H.R. 2990, the National Emergency Employment Defense Act, to put the Federal Reserve under the Treasury, to end the practice of fractional reserve banking and to take control of our monetary policy and make sure it works for the people.

We can use our Constitutional authority to coin money and spend it into circulation to put millions of Americans back to work in a way that is noninflationary. The time for bold change is now.

We are the American people. Our dream of freedom and prosperity is too big to fail.

To all Americans.. do not be fooled HR 2990changes nothing, and actually will make it worse.

IT IS NOTHING BUT A LIE AND SCAM.. AND i CAN PROVE IT.. MORE THAN THIS... they simply stole my work, warped it... and use it to preserve the bankers power...
THIS BILL... changes nothing... and keeps the bankers in position to rob us all blind.

I'd say lets slow down a bit before rushing to support the financial bill Mr. Kucinich mentioned. It is very fine of him to come out in support of OWS, but personally I would like to know more of the ramifications of his proposed bill before I sign off on it.
Eliminating fractional reserve banking simply substitutes full reserve banking. That means that the banks are required to keep deposits fully on reserve.
I have no idea what that would entail. How would it affect credit? interest rates? loan availability? mortgages? the FDIC? inflation? money circulation?
Bravo for Mr. Kucinich.
Research on the economic bill he proposes.

Have had me a cuppa and not nearly as foggy as above. Kucinich's proposed bill is H. R. 6550 National Emergency Employment Defense Act. (Not 2990 as cited in the article, nor 2920 which was my pre-coffee thought) 6560 had previously been introduced during the 2009-10 session and languished.

Hats off to you, Mr. Kucinich, and Ohio's 10th district.

Outstanding. Words cannot express the pride I feel. The Tea Party calls themselves patriots. They are not. The people in the rallies and people like Dennis are the true Patriots. The Tea Party should be renamed the BP's for Billionaire puppets, for that is who they are. Tea Party puppets. Has a nice genuine ring to it.

Bravo for supporting the cause of the protesters; please, though, show up at some of their protest locations to demonstrate, Congressman. In particular, please show up at the protest down on Wall Street, where police have been deployed in preparation to threaten citizens for making clear their disdain for the corruption, bribery and lawlessness of a financial sector that not only has decimated the national and global economies, but with the aide of unscrupulous Justices on our Supreme Court is bidding to shut down the people's government and confiscate remaining authorities and assets for themselves.

Indeed, any politician with a sliver of integrity left should be out talking to these crowds and standing on the front line in protest against not only the blatant and alarming behaviors of the financial sector, but also the show of extreme jack-boot force that mayors and governors are bringing to bear on these protests for Justice.

The average American probably supports the protests, but the big businesses obviously do not. In the coming elections candidates need money. Where do they get money? Big business, interest groups and the wealthy. Sadly I think that politicians will have to play the game and stray away from giving full support to the protests in order to get the money to run their campaigns. Because in todays political arena you can not run effectively if you have no money. There is an old saying that "people don't lose campaigns. They run out of money and cant get their planes in the air." The problems are much deeper then just Wall Street, and until we recognize that problems will not be given solutions.
09:52 AM on 10/06/2011
I definitely support the demonstrators although I am not in a position to join them. We need public financing of elections and that will help get the Wall Street millionaires out of the halls of Congress.

Liberalism was founded on the notion of liberty, freedom. Leftists have corrupted this by putting equality ahead of freedom. Mr. Kuscinich, you are a leftist.

The freedom to take away another's freedom is a pretty sorry implementation of freedom, don't ya think?

Equality is a valid objective of freedom--and you misspelled "Kucinich".

Thank you Rep. Kucinich for speaking out for the brave souls who are Occupying Wall Street. Without bravery such as the protesters are showing in these difficult times, none of the freedoms or opportunities we have enjoyed in our country would have come to pass.
