Mike Thompson has represented California's 1st Congressional District since 1998. He is a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he serves as Chair of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Human Intelligence, Analysis and Counterintelligence. During his tenure in Congress, he has been a particularly strong champion for healthcare, the environment, fiscal responsibility and ending the war in Iraq. Prior to serving in Congress, Rep. Thompson represented California's 2nd District in the California State Senate, and was the first Vietnam veteran elected to that body. He is currently a small vineyard owner and lives with his wife, Jan, in St. Helena.
