Osama Bin Laden's Death -- Revenge Is Redemption

Posted: 05/02/11 01:56 AM ET

President Obama's announcement tonight that Osama bin Laden has been killed is historic -- one the world has anticipated for nearly ten years. This is a case where revenge is redemption. Bin Laden incurred the wrath of the world for being the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks on innocent people. His death closes a major chapter in the War Against Terror and is a victory for President Obama's leadership, but it does not close the book. Celebration should be tempered as suffering from terrorism continues around the world. We must work relentlessly to put an end to it wherever it is found.

We must work relentlessly to put an end to it wherever it is found. We must I agree but we must not re-brand them as "rebels" such as in Libya or "freedom fighters" when it suits our cause, we become massive hypocrites when we do.

The U.S. has concentrated on allying itself with Middle Eastern regimes which were willing to sell us oil and not openly call for the destruction of Israel. Now, with the spread of the Arab Spring, we need to change that approach and prove ourselves as friends of the people, not the despots. That will be a better weapon against terrorism than killing 100 bin Ladens.

Revenge is not redemptive or redemption. It neither brings back the dead nor does it justify the countless deaths in Afghanistan. 3,000 deaths beget more Iraqi deaths who were in no way connected to 911.

Bin Laden's death will not bring the close of the matter. It will beget more death.

At what point did you decide the Old Testament was superior to Jesus' message?

My former 3rd grade student, and her family, can finally rest in peace. They were on the plane used as a bomb to hit the Pentagon. Ironically, many of her classmates' parents worked at the Pentagon. Redemption? Yes, for us all.

"Celebration should be tempered as suffering from terrorism continues around the world." So true.
