Who needs terrorists? We can scare the shit out of ourselves, thank you very much.
We have Bush's wet dream of an End Times scenario where he would like to usher in World War III before, according to him, the Persians, start some trouble in a few years.
We have Rudy Kazootie telling us that untold hoards of dark skinned demons are out to kill us all and we better elect him so he can incinerate them over the next eight years.
We have Michele Malkin, who prefers going house to house to threaten and scare the sneaky wretches who need assistance with exorbitant medical costs. How dare they!
We have the banks and credit card companies that make it easy to borrow and spend and allow people to obtain suspicious loans to buy houses only to discover to their horror that they are in over their heads and will lose everything and be indebted for forever.
Most people are afraid the country is going in the wrong direction. The Republican candidates only seem to care about a certain minority of people who are frightened by the secular world (and who, in turn, frighten the secular world). The Democratic candidates are scarily making no promises to end the Iraq occupation.
These are among the many reasons why foreign terrorist can just sit back and watch us scare the shit out of ourselves and each other. Thank you very much!

You can add to that the fact that, by not stopping the incompetents in Washington, we are allowing them to drain the country's Treasury, and neglect our own needs (health care, infra-structure, energy prices, global warming and so on), destroy the middleclass. We are, in fact, destroying ourselves. The terrorists and our enemies can sit back and watch us implode. We've reached critical mass and it may be too late to turn the tide.
It is not only our enemies that are sitting back and looking at us implode.
Basically, we have become an example to other civilized countries.
My self employed Medical Insurance (family of 4) was $220/month in he early '90s. Now its $934/month (Family of 3).
What scares me most is that someone who believes in the end of days has the power to bring it about...in one effing finger.

I couldn't find any with a out of pocket limitnor any with less then 50% co-pay.
Copay $30. $1000/year. This is about $700 for medical & $130 for dental. Medical Kaiser Permamante, Dental Blue Cross.
My husbands United Healtcare Policy has a $4,000.00 deductible. No co-pay, just we have to pay the first $4,000.00. They break us before we get covered. Good deal? And we are saving $3.00 per week over our old policy with a $15.00 co-pay. Now that's progress. Not for us, but hey the healthcare industry has to pay their campaign contributions somehow. Unfortunately, it's using what used to go to healthcare.
Please Include the Terror of Medical Bills, or Losing Medical Insurers.

I agree, Goddess. The usa has become a nation of cowards!! The sheeple are not afraid of their country being destroyed; they are afraid of being killed themselves. What ever happened to the kind of courage that americans used to have?? The pioneers who opened up the west, who marched in civil rights marches, who served their country in time of war with great honor and courage???
Tbose people were our ancestors. Did we not inherit even a small amount of their courage? The way things are in this country now, I would have to say no.

What happened is that we brought up a whole generation taught to think of Number One first and foremost.
They were so important that the idea that someone could hate what we do was a transforming shock. Then in steps King George to direct that shock into an attack and privatization frenzy, rather than the deep soul-searching we ought to be doing.
Remember "Why do they hate us?" Now it's been replaced by "Who the f*ck cares why they hate us? Nuke 'em!"
Meanwhile, "they" have more reason to hate us than they ever did. Bush and Co have ensured that Al Qaeda have unlimited poor repressed converts. They (BushCo) have ensured that we now have every reason to fear terrorists.
What we need to remember is that the worst of the terrorists is sitting in the Oval Office right now.
People who massacred and dispossessed the indigenous peoples of this continent.
What happened? Tv happened. Most people are so plugged into the idiot's lantern, it is a real part of who they are. Now, that said, where have people gotten their information? TV news. Who owns TV news.....d
I think America is still here in the hearts of most of it's people. Think back to the attacks on New York and Washington. I didn't see people cowering. New Yorkers showed immense courage. Did that city crumble? No way! Left on their own... Americans came together and helped each other and didn't ask party affiliation, race, religion, or sexual orientation first. Only when we looked to leadership did things go to the crapper. Were we told to be strong and to be proud of the people of New York? No. We were told to buy duct tape and garbage bags and suffocate our courage privately in front of our TV and we were told to hate New Yorkers because they vote wrong. If the people ever get an avenue to compare stories and be heard... then you will find America again. Until then, it's just a few photoshop pictures and a whole lot of noise.
And, by God, we went out and shopped!
Say it everywhere! I am ashamed of the American people. We have revealed ourselves to the world as stereotype bullies -- brave when we grossly outweigh the enemy, whining cowards when he scores a hit. Other countries have seen far more people killed by terrorists, and not all of them turned into twitching killers. Look at Britain and Israel -- neither a paragon of freedom and civil rights, but both managing to keep their undies unsoiled in the face of far more loss of life than the WTC attack.
My theory about the WTC shock is that what really horrified us was not the incidentally dead people. It was the lost of property. We don't care, as a nation, that more soldiers have died in Iraq than died in the WTC. We have become the rich man who expects to drive his HumVee through that camel's gate, and somewhere, Dante is smiling.
We have always been a country of the lowest common denominator. Our great artists and intellectuals have had to go to Europe to be truly appreciated. For an example, just look at "popular" music. How can people have good taste in leaders when they listen to the crap that passes as music....B

You need to wake up! I know people who said that no President would ever be able to torture, to kidnap, hold without charge, deny due process to or ever eliminate habeas corpus and guess what? True that he had help from a complicit Congress but most of these laws were passed after the fact. Bush has made the precedent for a President to pretty well do whatever he wants. And if you listened to the Senate hearings on Mukasey you would have heard him say that the President has the duty and obligation to do whatever he see fit tyo protect this country. These are the powers that a dictator holds! If you think that Ron Paul wouldn't do any of those things you are stupider than you sound. Remember, absolute power corrupts absolutely! That is not just a saying, it is a fact that has been proven time and again throughout history! You sound exactly like the people who voted for Bush twice!

For all intents and purposes the closest parallel to OBL is Pancho Villa when he declared war on the United States, had an incursion into New Mexico and did kill a few people. This was about 100 years ago and General Black Jack Pershing pursued Villa into Mexico but never captured him just as OBL has never been captured. Basically, that's what the 19 terrorists did on 9/11 although much more dramatically due to television and present day technology. Villa would have done the same given the opportunity, resources, and technology that just didn't exist at the time. On a personal level OBL is comparable to Pancho Villa.
The Bush maladministration is what happens when cowardice is elevated to national hero status as it been by the Republicans.

I disagree! The Republicans don't give a rat's ass about the religious extremists, Evangels or Muslims. They just used them. The Repubs only care about 2% of the population of any nation, the EXTREME wealthy.
