Who needs terrorists? We can scare the shit out of ourselves, thank you very much.
We have Bush's wet dream of an End Times scenario where he would like to usher in World War III before, according to him, the Persians, start some trouble in a few years.
We have Rudy Kazootie telling us that untold hoards of dark skinned demons are out to kill us all and we better elect him so he can incinerate them over the next eight years.
We have Michele Malkin, who prefers going house to house to threaten and scare the sneaky wretches who need assistance with exorbitant medical costs. How dare they!
We have the banks and credit card companies that make it easy to borrow and spend and allow people to obtain suspicious loans to buy houses only to discover to their horror that they are in over their heads and will lose everything and be indebted for forever.
Most people are afraid the country is going in the wrong direction. The Republican candidates only seem to care about a certain minority of people who are frightened by the secular world (and who, in turn, frighten the secular world). The Democratic candidates are scarily making no promises to end the Iraq occupation.
These are among the many reasons why foreign terrorist can just sit back and watch us scare the shit out of ourselves and each other. Thank you very much!

Maybe our next president should be a former insurance agent used to coldly calculating actual risks rather than beating the hysterical drum for every potential risk. I remember ICBM's in the 60s, AIDS in the 80s, Y2K, and now ... well, now EVERYTHING is scary; from superstaph, to Jihadists, to baby toys, to lake amoebas, to cell phone drivers. When did everyone become so paranoid?
Terrorism only works on the terrified.
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a Fascist dictatorship, or a Parliament, or a Communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
--Hermann Goring at the Nuremberg trials.
I like how you think, Richard. Bush is trying to pass the torch of his admin's credo, 'Be afraid, be VERY afraid.' If Guilliano can convince Americans that the election IS this single issue, then he wins the presidency. If not, if American optimism prevails, well then we have the first female president to kick around. Be prepared for another 9/11 in Sept or Oct. of 2008/

write your representatives and get this bill passed!
...and note who is proposing it.
I disagree with Ron on most issues, but I still have to say.... Congrats to Dr. Paul
read the bill, It's a start
I am truly interested to hear what issues upon which you disagree with him. I thought I did too, but after some in-depth inspection, realized he is brilliant on economics, and his personal views on abortion do not get in the way of him protecting our constitution. He voted against the patriot act, against the war in iraq, for a marque and reprisal on osama bin laden, is for states rights on any issue if thats what the people want. he simply wants us to realize the intended role of our federal government...which has gotten us into so much trouble. Federal mandates are fascism and he realizes this.

Look at the return they got on the 9/11 attacks. We spend millions on dubious airport security, turn our once free country into a bunch of eavesdrropping backstabbing paranoids and spend close to a trillion dollars attacking the wrong country. Oh, and become so driven by fear that we re-elct that moron to the presidency. All this for Osama's mininimum investment of training a few suicide bombers. They don't need to strike again for another hundred years and they will still be getting payback. It is easy to bring down an idiocracy
We have one constitutionalist that will address all key issues facing us.
go ponder that he's running on the republican ticket and good friends with dennis kucinich.
Excellent!!Belzer you nailed it,the fact that our representatives will not oppose a regime like this points to the need for a third party.
Vote Biden.
"the usurious practices of most credit card lenders is scandalous and should be regulated. Perhaps the credit card debt is mostly comprised of trumped up fees, late charges and interest rates. Now there's a topic on which I would appreciate your expertise."

Joe Biden is the United States Senator from the BigCreditCard manufacturing state of Deleware. He voted to stick it to all us workingclass when he prostituted himself to BigCredit by helping to pass the 2005 Bankruptcy Reform Bill with no consessions required of their "trumped up fees, late charges and interest rates".
He has no loyalty to we the people. After selling his soul to his state's biggest industry, how can anybody trust him not to cave to the rest of the MegaCorps as President of the United States?
The genius of Bush is that he found you do not necessarily need an external threat to panic people into a maleable herd, he found that he could do it singlehandedly as both the fear monger and the thing to be feared. Genius!
Since 9/11 was not scary enough nor a serious threat?
Many things kill Americans more than 9/11 did. For example, a war against a country that did not pose a threat to the US, heart disease, cancer, drunk driving...need I say more?
Certainly a terrorist attack is a serious threat, but you have to put it into perspective.
There are many serious and threatening things that have claimed more American lives than 9/11 did. Some examples are the Iraq war, heart disease, cancer, and drunk driving. While 9/11 is indeed scary and threatening because the US has not had an attack of this magnitude in our history, it needs to regarded with some perspective.
Things that concern me more than an attack by foreign terrorists are the environment, the economy, and the rise of authoritarian power in this country that would not have been tolerated by our grandparents.
Yana7, hell yea that was scary, but sooner or later you're gonna die, period. In the meantime, in your fear, how far will you debase yourself. Rendition, torture, the rule of law, what will make you feel safe ? How about a dictatorship, maybe dump the Constitution? At some point you've got to get a grip and say I can live with being scared but I can't live without freedom.
otherwise called... double damned edged sword
Bush didn't discover or start this tactic in America. So please don't call him a genius! Haha.
well thank goodness we have a president like george bush, and rudi waiting in the wings. thank god for the christians in the house and senate who see things for what they are. oh man i cant pull it off. i cant type this with a straight face. but seriously, i am a retired grunt, and youd think id be concerned. but anymore, to quote elvis (costello) i used to be disgusted, now i try to be amused. theres a woody allen quote id like to use but i am at work and id have to go home to look it up to get it right.
we've played right into the terrorists' hands, who have effectively used our system of government better than we have. It is time that we, the disenfranchised, silent and lazy....republicans and democrats and all other forms of independent parties unite and bring us a President that would adhere to the constitution, use it fully, and protect us all to the best of his/her ability.
But lets face it, we need to do that foremost at the State level, where we all have some form of representative government intact.
'... among the many reasons why foreign

Thank you very much!'
In the world of Realpolitik, if your nation
is wealthy but lacking (say) oil, and 'their'
nation is poor but with lots of oil, serious
trouble is *inevitable*.
To top it off, their beliefs encourage suicide
bombing, which baffles us; their handymen
have learned that $5 homemade munitions
destroy our $5M weapon systems (which also
baffles us).
As the oil resource dwindles, it'll only get much
worse. Could be we ought to wean ourselves
off the stuff, no?
If the Republicans can sabotage FISA by invoking Bin laden as a terrorist threat, Bin laden is winning. The free speech and democracy Al Qaeda wishes to replace with authoritarian Sharia are being quashed from within by right wing scare tactics in our own country. Bin laden has power-hungry though unwitting Republicans misleading Americans into sacrificing their right to privacy for a false sense of security.
Connski
Al Qaeda and Neo-conservatives: two sides of the same Authoritarian coin.
Let's be fair about the housing situation. It's people like Jesse Jackson, not Bush, that put political pressure on lenders (getting laws changed) to provide home loans to people who cannot afford the payments.
This is not a pretty way to say it, but (as in the case with a local Orlando lender / buyer default) if someone gets a $1700 month loan and they only bring home $2500 month, they cannot afford a home. The buyer is an idiot, and the lender is an idiot.
No, because you see, LENDERS ARE SUPPOSED TO UNDERSTAND HOW LOANS WORK, AND WHAT'S PRACTICAL, IT'S THEIR PROFESSION. To me, at least, the lender in these circumstances are the greater idiots, if they're not just cheats.
The lender already sold the loan. The buyer of the loan is depending on the government to cover said buyer's loss. That would be your taxes and mine. Only we and the little cat who couldn't afford an outrageously priced loan so they might have a home (and you know the arguments the lender used to get the potential home owner to buy)get whupped.
True, so true! To tell you the truth all of these guys scare me mor than terrorists. America is no longer land of the free. We are no longer respected around the world.
How are we ever going to get back the America we remember?
ELECT AL GORE! ASK HIM TO SPEAK 'TRUTH TO POWER'. SPEAK FOR THOSE OF US WITH NO VOICE! Some of us come on sites like this and state our fears. No one is listening. With the exception of Chris Dodd! I commend him for his actions stopping the criminals from re-writing the laws that made them criminals.
Americans need true Patriots right now. Not Party Patriots (phony American Patriots). We need people with voices to STAND UP, so we can get these phonies Patriots to STAND DOWN! I have suggested it for several weeks now, we need a new ticket, an American Ticket! The party loyalty pays the salaries and provides free health care to the representatives that should be speaking for Americans, but are not. It's time someone gets out in front and leads us out of this mess. I would like to see Gore/Hagel '08. I have heard Al Gore would only run with another Democrat, but I think he is more Statesman than political. Al Gore could get America to the streets before it is too late.
Once George W. goes live on TV to tell us something bad has happened and we are going into martial law, it will be too late. Someone needs to speak up now! STAND UP AL GORE! SPEAK FOR ME! YOU WOULD NOT BE STANDING ALONE! WE (AMERICANS) WOULD JOIN YOU! DEMOCRATS & REPUBLICANS (AMERICANS)!!
Sorry, but please don't speak for me.
By the way, can you say S-chip? How come no one ever heard of that program in the media?
Anyone with less than $80 K can get gov help with medical? Didn't know that! Did you?
What a terrible country this is...and what a terrible Pres. Bush is...he won't expand it!
Here's my question...All that chatter about our terrible medical coverage in this country...chatter...chatter....chatter that Hillary wears the red mantle for, that the democrats won't give up...and no one says a word about a gov. program that gives health aid to those who make under $80 K?
I make $45K and didn't know I didn't have any thing to worry about where medical coverage was concerned.
You get the S-Chip Program through public schools, and other organizations who promote it but mostly public schools. Under 80K is a lie. It's under 50k . So you still qualify if you have children it's not health care for you its for your children only. The mistake the right wing makes is their lies that are easily proven to be lies if you just research enough.

This link tells the truth about S-chip.
The truth about the schip program. Lies don't work anymore. Try some truth! Truthiness, Wow what a new concept.
Oh! the terrible part is that Bush wants to get rid of a program that helps the middle class. I don't know about you but I like the middle class they are the people who built this country and keep it strong. People like my father who worked 80 hours a week until it broke him. So yeah the middle class deserve help when help is needed and you know if it helps the middle classes kids grow up to be healthy, strong, Americans so much the better.
