Hurricane Dean is Coming

I spent a few hours at the airport today trying to get out of Haiti. No luck. Last flights cancelled. The airport is to be closed all day Sunday. The Dominican Republic has also closed it's airport. Our concert in the south has been cancelled. I guess I'm going to miss my Monday morning flight to Korea.

The last Hurricane that came through Haiti (Jeanne) left an estimated 3000 people dead. I knew something was up last night when I saw a reporter from the Miami Herald at the bar and he told me he was here for the Hurricane. The Brazilian embassy is sending me a couple of agronomists who were evacuated from a mountain town. It's getting a bit grey outside.

Many people may die tonight. I checked out Weather.com and though things look bad for Haiti, they look even worse for Jamaica. Jamaica looks like it's sitting in the middle of a train track.

I had been thinking of writing an open letter to Karl Rove for Huffpo telling him what a jerk he is. I had also thought of telling him that if the Democratic congress increases their majority in the next election, he could be in for a tough spell, you know, jail time and stuff like that. Some one else will have to write that letter for me.

I'm also concerned that I may miss my son's first World Cup soccer match. My son is in Korea getting set to play Japan in a first round game of the 17 and under World Cup. Haiti has qualified for the first time and their division includes France, Nigeria and Japan. If my tv is still working I'll watch the game, live, at 4 am...
