Richard has acted in over 50 movies such as Speilberg’s The Lost World, Deep Impact, City Hall, Seven, I Am Sam, Ray, Malcolm X and Living Out Loud. Upcoming is Last Chance Harvey opposite Dustin Hoffman and the just finished Another Harvest Moon with Ernest Borgnine. He has done countless roles on TV most notably Relativity, NYPD Blue, The Practice, Ally Macbeal, Eli Stone, Entourage and of course the West Wing for which he won an Emmy Award, two Sag Awards and numerous nominations. He won an Ovation Award and several Dramalogue Awards for his work in LA Theater which included a few years with Tim Robbin’s renowned troupe The Actor’s Gang. He recently returned from London’s West End in the highly acclaimed one man show Underneath The Lintel. And is currently in rehearsing the first revival of Lanford Wilson’s Talley’s Folley to open at the MaCarter theater in Princeton before moving forward to Broadway.

Richard has received the Townsend Harris medal for post graduate achievement from CCNY an award given to 11 Nobel Laureates and to people in his field such as Zero Mostel, James Cagney and Paddy Chayevsky. In 2004 he received an honorary Doctorate from the school but demurred keynote speech status to another honoree that day, President Bill Clinton. He was recently given a Peace Award by the Council for A Livable World in DC for which he is now serving on the board of advisors. He has received a humanitarian award from the Weingart Center for the Homeless in LA. He is a regular contributor to the Independent in London on the subject of American politics and other things American. And has reported and commented for the BBC for both radio and television. He is on the board of advisors for the Creative Coalition. He is married to actress and Sfactor(a revolutionary workout for women) founder Sheila Kelley.
