Will Rogers once said he was not a member of any organized party -- he was a Democrat.

Will Anonymous added that the Democrats could screw up a two-car funeral.

The Democratic Party of 2008 is proving both of them right. .

And that's why it's time for Hillary Clinton -- and I'm a Hillary supporter -- to drop out of the race.

Even if she were to win the nomination, she would not win the election.

She would not win because of the same phenomenon that afflicted Hubert Humphrey in 1968. She will be deserted by the lunatic fringe of the Democratic party, the Barbara Ehrenreichs of this world.

In 1968, Humphrey was defeated by Richard Nixon by a margin of about one vote per precinct. The left-wing loonies of the party refused to support him because of his failure to denounce the Vietnam War as Vice President and his perceived subservience to the man who made him Vice President, Lyndon Johnson.

When it was argued to the loonies that the choice was between Humphrey, a progressive Democrat and wonderful human being, versus Richard Nixon, they ignored the question and allowed Nixon to win. They made Ralph Nader (another loonie) look reasonable in 2000.

Charles Fenn, a Democratic political consultant of whom I've never heard, recently appeared on television and acknowledged that the worst political mistake he had ever made was failure to support HHH in 1968. He said he regretted that decision every day of his life since then.

Unfortunately, many of those HHH dropouts still do not acknowledge their political stupidity and will repeat it in 2008 if Hillary Clinton were somehow still able to win the nomination.

So, Ms. Clinton, it's time to admit that you've fought the good fight, but you've lost, to lament that you've gone from a shoo-in to a shut-out, and work as hard as you can to get Barack Obama elected as President.

It will not be easy.

For starters, the Democratic Party will have to overcome the monumental idiocy of its leadership in excluding the Democratic voters of such key states as Michigan and Florida from participating in the choice of a Democratic candidate. Dean as Dunce.

American voters will have to be brain-dead to vote for a Republican after the disaster of the Bush presidency, but it will come down to a contest between McBush and Bias. Regrettably, I think Bias will win.

I started to write a well informed comment, but then I realized:

You support a pandering congenital liar whose motives are solidly based in the political moment. You do remember she just supported a gas tax that would have raised gas prices and eliminated jobs, right?

...And I'm the "lunatic"....Right.

You've been around politics too long. When Obama wins the general, I'll be less interested in Obama's victory speech, and much more interested in being able to look at Hillary's private response.

The twin sting of realizing that she was completely wrong, and won't ever have another credible opportunity to run will be priceless.

In the meantime, in the words of Lebowski: "Try listening here, man, you might learn something".

Thank you Dear, It's nice to know my lunacy has been appreciated.....
I feel included in the party now.
Seriously, Unite Now. "Vote for Obama or the lunatics that form my party will stay home" does not sound like whole-hearted support. Obama makes people BELIEVE that things can get better, and belief is a lot more powerful than micro-marketed soundbites.
The most extraordinary group of people, almost all of them older, right-center and dare I say it, white, have told me they would vote for Obama, after years of voting Republican.
Why? Because they BELIEVE in America. They know the country has gone wrong. And although they might quibble on some of the policy details, they want a candidate who believes the country can be made better.....and can make them believe it too!
That's why words and charisma matter. That's why Ideals matter. I believe the short word for it is "Leadership".

Richard-

Break the rules... oh, well... don't do it again... here, have some cookies.

The rules were in place for good reason... to give a wide representation of voters a say.
The reason the rules were violated was to achieve influence, and the short-sightedness of rule breakers who thought early primaries were the way to achieve it was exposed.

The pessimism of your belief that bias will win out suggests you think little of this country, at a time when Americans have just proven they care less about right and left, and more about right and wrong.

The sour grapes in your "lunatic fringe" and "loonies" comments suggests you share a world view with Bush. Obama isn't Nader, and the "fringe" is a majority.

It is the New Democrats of the DLC who supported Bush policies that aren't conservative, centrist, or moderate. They have proven themselves to be the radicals of the modern era... trashing American values and our Constitution.

BTW- Dean's "idiotic" 50 state strategy won back the House and the Senate for DEMOCRATS.
You may want to focus on all the Hillary supporters who have vowed to vote for McCain at this point, instead of rewriting history.

HuffPost's Pick

In Obama's historic speech in April, he said one thing that resonates throughout this campaign -- that Wright's problem wasn't what he believed, it was that he couldn't believe things could change.

Earlier tonight I read about former mayor Ed Koch saying Obama can't win. I lived in NYC while he was mayor and loved him. But I realized he, too, is stuck in a rapidly decaying mind set.

Just 6 months ago I was saying that this country does not elect a woman or a black man. But Obama is more than that -- he's a multicultural inspiration to change.

And Hillary? She's a part of the old mind set -- and prey to all its nastiest vagaries. I can't think of any better way to unite the Republicans behind McCain than to have him face the Clintons.

Even with HRCs recent pandering about the gas tax holiday, which worried me, I was pleased to discover that the electorate isn't all that gullible after all and have proven willing to see the truth. That's the result of the fresh air of decency and honesty blowing through the campaign. We can finally expect business as usual to take a back seat to integrity.

Mr. Valeriani, I recognized your name and remembered your sign-offs and contribution to broadcast news. However, as with Koch, you might consider the possiblity that change not only CAN happen, it IS happening right under our noses. I'm both old enough and young enough to be glad

I'm afraid I don't know who Barbara Ehrenreich is or what she did to rate being mentioned by name in this piece, but if it's true you can judge people by their enemies, she must be a great person indeed.
I mean, geez louise, this guy make Lannie Davis look like a smurf. I just love being called a loonie in the name of party unity.

That "lunatic fringe" is called the majority of the Democratic party and it's STILL well to the right of Nixon! Hillary can't win because Hillary can't win.

I don't suppose you'll admit that Humphrey himself had something to do with the Democratic Party's 1968 failure (or Gore in 2000, or Kerry in 2004).

The real lunatics are the Democrats who can't see beyond "splitting the difference."

Senator Clinton is a fighter, Obama is not and this is by his own admission. This country needs a fighter.

Obama will never divorce himself from his America hating individuals. His wife and yes his children who have been exposed to this hate philosophy will try to tell Obama's gullible and naive followers, oh no not true. But the facts clearly show that to be true.

Along with Wright, Farrakhan and other leaders that are "relevant to the black community" believe that African Americans are victims. Remember this, there are no victims, only volunteers. And, yes, we are judged by the company we keep.

Take a careful look at the company Obama has kept. It is not good.

Obama will make platitude laden speeches for his gullible, naïve and blind followers. In those speeches Obama will use the angle that both Wright and Farrakhan are "relevant to the Black community." He will ask their advice and he will follow it. They will be a part of his administration and his administration's philosophy.

Consider this oh blind and stupid Obamakins, twenty years of complete immersion in a hate America philosophy will never be cleansed by a few lofty speeches and laughable excuses. Wake up and see this man who would be President of the greatest country in the world for what he is, a duplicitous, pontificating twit with a hidden and most dangerous agenda! Just another politician trying to pull the wool over the apparently gullible and naïve voters eyes.

Do you mean a fighter like President Bush? He never seems happier than when he is standing up to Democrats. And yet somehow he doesn't seem to be what America needs.

How about someone with good ideas, rather than someone who confuses being a fighter for having good ideas?

You are complete bigot. You still think the divisions in our society should be allowed to simmer and breed hate at a time when all Americans are needed to bring about change and to put America on the right path again. Alright get this, Americans have wised and would not allow any static society to rule and guide them again. The American dream appears illusionary and fading away but let me tell the free people of America would bring it back into reality, like our fore bearers. The path America is on now is dangerous and would only lead to destruction. A new path and course is needed with the help of all Americans and the leader to lead that way is a man called Obama. If you still think it is an illusion then am sorry you are "STATIC".

And McCain keeping the company of Bush? "Not good" would be a compliment.

Your insults are unsubstantiated, and expose your establishment defending rationalizations as the truly radical mentality.
