Hurricane Ike Upon Us: Cuba, Haiti, Texas Need Help!

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

What does one do when a killer hurricane is ravaging millions in the Caribbean and the US Gulf Coast but it's "Friday Night Lights" football time in Texas, the start of school, the Major League Baseball pennant race and the endless presidential election campaign?

It's hard to pay attention unless you are living at ground zero.

But attention must be paid, and Americans should match what they are giving political campaigns and paying for entertainment and sports event tickets with a donation to a charity they trust which is helping in Cuba, Haiti and the Gulf Coast.

People are stranded, homeless, mostly destitute and need our attention. For Californians, this is "paying it forward" before the Great Quake.

My favorite charity is Operation USA but there are many others which are helping.
