Spring Cleaning For The Soul: What Are You Getting Rid Of In Your Life?

Posted: 03/21/2012 9:30 am

Ahhh, spring! Just the word "spring" puts you in a good mood. Clocks "spring" forward to bring us more light. There is a "spring" in my step as I skip to pick up the paper in my driveway. I think of a Slinky as it "springs" down the steps of a childhood memory. Everything about spring makes me feel jaunty.

The newness of what spring represents was the reason we asked you to tell us what you are getting rid of in your life in your personal spring cleaning. I have loved reading your responses on twitter @RitaWilson, so many of which could belong to me or any of my friends. For me, I would like to clean out distraction that keeps me from being in the moment. There is so much mental chatter and clutter that I am looking forward to cleaning out the "cupboard" of my mind.

Check out the slideshow below to find out how our readers are doing spring cleaning for the soul.

this is something that I am sure that people will eat up. why is it so important that we need someone to tell us to clean. That is a personal decission that needs to be made by pepole that want to throw away things. I keep seeing more of this crap on line that takes up space and don't say anything. Do the pepole that wirte these articles think that people need such advice, I don't think so.

Thanks so much for the info. I thought about this long and hard. This morning I got up and got rid of some old sneakers that were in the closet, went out and cleaned up the garage----got rid of a lot of stuff, went back in the house and moved the girlfriend out. Kept the dog though. Boy is it nice to spring clean.

Get rid of the myth that one has to be constantly multitasking. There is a time for rest and a time for work but many feel guilty about resting. Some of the most creative ideas you will ever get are when your mind is relaxed. Of course, you may be sparked to create something because of a deadline but you shouldn't discount the ability of your mind to create something wonderful when it is in a relaxed state. Constant motion does not guarantee quality; being balanced in work and rest will allow your mind to be fertile ground for the dreams that will come that fuel your creativity. There is a time for everything; don't try to do everything at one time.

Creativity is the power to connect the seemingly unconnected.

I hate to be Captain Grumpy Pants, but I really, really hate when I click on an article and get a slideshow instead of an article.

I guess I'll get rid of my irritation at THAT.

My little dog Pug (who is part Dalai Lama and part Jimmy Buffett) would suggest taking a long walk on a quiet beach to help in cleaning out anything that needs attention because to do any project we need to start with a clean mind. He talks about it at length here: www.JacksonDunes.com

This is a great post! I also just today posted a blog on "spring Clean Your Mind!" on www.emotionalwellnessforlife.com - It reinforces the notion of making each day a fresh start!

I'm getting rid of the piles of paper on my desk that have been accumulating for months so that I can free my mind to work better. Huge bonus in my quest to banish my paper piles is tracking my expenses and manage my budget better since my scanner from The Neat Company (neat.com) comes with handy software that more of less does the hardwork for me. Super excited for a clean and productive spring!
