A stunning military poll conducted by the British Ministry of Defense shows that 82% of Iraqis are "strongly opposed" to the occupation, 45% support attacks against occupation forces, and "fewer than one per cent think Allied military involvement is helping to improve security in their country." As the Sunday Telegraph reports, 67% feel less secure because of the occupation.

The release of this poll was almost completely ignored by the US media, although blogs Raw Story and Left I On the News covered it. Meanwhile news outlets will continue to defend themselves against charges that they never report the "good news" from Iraq.

Guess who else won't be talking about these numbers? If you said "leading Democrats," you win! The cowering "Clintonistas" and their leader will continue to waffle on this debacle of a war, thinking that the path of "moderation" means helping the Republicans conceal or ignore unpleasant realities. They'll shout "hooray for ideas" when some Congressman spouts non sequiters instead of truth on television, and wonder why the rest of the country isn't clapping.

Oh ghostly shade of Harry Truman, I summon thee! This country needs a little "plain speaking" right about now.
