Orthodox Creationism: It's Not Just for Christians Anymore

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Some Orthodox Jewish leaders are backing "intelligent design," proving that the suppression of scientific knowledge in the name of religious mind-control isn't just for Christians anymore. Willful ignorance is now an ecumenical movement.

Several speakers used the Sixth Miami International Conference on Torah and Science to push "ID," and the Orthodox spin on creationist propaganda is gaining some support. As the Miami Sun-Times reported:

Miami's Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education even signed on as a sponsor. The organization's president, Chaim Botwinick, says the event is a harbinger. "Many Jewish schools are beginning to discuss making intelligent design an integral part of their curriculum," he explains.

Hey, just like the televangelists! What happened to resisting assimilation? As for me, I've already explained why I think the only plausible "intelligent designer" for this universe is not who these folks or their goyische colleagues have in mind.

It should be noted that the overwhelming majority of American Jews reject creationism - which is just another word for ID - and my own Hebrew school teachers were rightfully proud of Jewish contributions to the world of science. (To be fair, so were my Christian relatives - but then, other good Southern Baptists like Jimmy Carter reject creationism, too.)

Even in Miami, there were some in the audience who didn't drink the Kool-Aid. Said physics professor Nathan Aviezar: "We would be helping to eliminate science as a discipline, and that would put us back in the Fifteenth Century. "

And, in case some folks have forgotten, the Fifteenth Century didn't work out so well for the Jews.
