Posted July 25, 2008 | 10:53 AM (EST)

Many people are talking about what VP choices await Barack Obama if he becomes President and certainly, there are some great ones out there. But let's look one step further to Obama's Cabinet and whom he would put in charge of different areas of our country. These are just ideas,...

What Makes People So Susceptible to Fascism?

Posted December 24, 2007 | 11:44 AM (EST)

It is a profound question with a myriad of answers and few solutions: What makes people so susceptible to fascism? Who are those flag-waving throngs cheering on their proud leader? And why do they cheerfully support a figurehead and system that works against their own self-interests? Are they gullible, naive...

Lawsuits I'd Like to See, Part 2: Obese Child Sues Their Parents

Posted November 15, 2007 | 06:56 PM (EST)

Of all the things that change our culture in America, lawsuits seem to mark some of the biggest turning points. Think Brown vs. Board of Education or Roe vs. Wade as two examples. And so it goes that the only thing that could change the growing epidemic of obesity is...

Preventable Deaths and Social Security

Posted October 13, 2007 | 08:02 PM (EST)

You want to screw the government? Live as long as you can and collect Social Security. But make sure you're obese so you can put an extra strain on Medicare. I know it's hard to live long when you're obese, but if you put down the cigarettes and alcohol, you...

If Madeleine McCann was Black, Would the Media Care?

Posted September 28, 2007 | 11:37 AM (EST)

Madeleine McCann, who you've no doubt heard has been missing over in Europe, is a white British four-year-old whose disappearance has sparked a massive global media focus. Front pages of major magazines, top news stories on television and a hunt that has spanned continents. No matter how awful that is,...

More Enemies = Greater Profits

Posted August 24, 2007 | 08:15 PM (EST)

What is the psychology of an administration that creates more enemies? Everybody marvels at how we've somehow created more terrorists out of the Iraqupation yet nobody realizes that may be the truest sign of success for BushCo. Wait, you say- I thought we were supposed to make the US safer...

Rich People Use Bridges Too

Posted August 4, 2007 | 07:25 PM (EST)

Let me start off with a blunt statement: Debt is slavery. When you are in debt to someone/something, you are slave to them until that debt is repaid. Millions of Americans are in debt to credit card companies and cannot get out from under. Everything they own is at risk...

Lawsuits I'd Like to See Part One: Sue the DEA to Prove Nicotine Is Not a Drug

Posted July 13, 2007 | 04:33 PM (EST)

That's right: a lawsuit against the government to prove that Nicotine is NOT a drug. After all, it's not on the DEA's list of scheduled drugs, so what does the DEA consider it to be? Anyone who has ever smoked cigarettes know that Nicotine is a seriously addictive drug. Ever...

You Can't Lose a War that Doesn't Exist

Posted June 28, 2007 | 05:03 PM (EST)

Here's a thought for you: We are not at war in Iraq, therefore we cannot lose or win. We went to "war" with Saddam Hussein; he is dead. All rationale for going into Iraq has proved fraudulent, some of it intentionally so. We are not at war with Iraq and...

Imagine a device that allowed you to access the internet wirelessly from anywhere in the world without going through local servers. Perhaps a direct to satellite link directly to an unfettered, unbridled and free internet via a portable laptop or PDA. Add to this a battery that can charge via...

Roe vs. The Marlboro Man

Posted April 30, 2007 | 05:08 PM (EST)

What would you say about a mother who forced her children to smoke cigarettes? How about a mother who insisted her children drink alcohol? And I'm not talking about just making it available to them, but actually forcing the child to ingest tobacco and alcohol at the same amounts the...

Come Out With Your Nukes Up!

Posted April 6, 2007 | 12:03 PM (EST)

Look at a map of the Middle East and find our two main warzones. Iraq on the left, Afghanistan on the right and- hello!- Iran in the middle. And to the south, the Persian Gulf where we've recently sent some more of our naval might to fortify the zone. We've...

Enemies and Customers

Posted February 26, 2007 | 07:10 PM (EST)

The Washington Post ran an article on January 30 headlined "With Iran Ascendant, U.S. Is Seen at Fault" which focused on how the rise of Iranian influence in the Middle East was less due to Iran's successes than it was because of the United States failures. In essence, we...

A Human, Being

Posted December 19, 2006 | 01:53 PM (EST)

Here's a simple yet complex question: What makes us human? What is the basis for 'humanity'? One could argue that morality in its many forms is the driving factor in the birth and evolution of the human race. Every religion has it's moral code that dictates how it's followers should...

Holier Than Thou Democracy

So conservative talk show host Dennis Prager has a big problem with Minnesota Democrat Keith Ellison's decision to take the oath of office Jan. 4 with his hand on a Quran, the Muslim holy book, saying "He should not be allowed to do so. Not because of any American hostility...

The False Middle

Posted October 26, 2006 | 12:36 PM (EST)

I think the biggest misconception about the political "landscape" is the whole Left-Right argument. What is the Middle? Webster's says it's "equally distant from extremes or limits." A place of equality and balance. What do the Democrats really want? Equality and balance. Equality on racial issues, gender issues, religious issues...
