Governor Palin's Reading List

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Fascist writer Westbrook Pegler, an avowed racist who Sarah Palin approvingly quoted in her acceptance speech for the moral superiority of small town values, expressed his fervent hope about my father, Robert F. Kennedy, as he contemplated his own run for the presidency in 1965, that "some white patriot of the Southern tier will spatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies."

It might be worth asking Governor Palin for a tally of the other favorites from her reading list.

Keith Olberman picked this story up last night. I was glad to see it get out there but doubt it will be followed up.

If there was ever any doubt about the retrograde thinking of this ticket, this should erase it.

Sarah Palin and reading? Careful... or she might start lying again a non-malfunctioning teleprompter and her "winging it" to sound genuine. And speaking of reading.... if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go back to my "Daddy’s Roommate". :-)

I was in Mrs. Carr's 4th grade class when the announcement came that your Uncle John had been assassinated. At home later, my mother, father, 3 siblings and I prayed. My world was shaken. It was shaken similarly twice more before the end of the decade. I've always thought of John Kennedy as a great man, but I didn't learn until recently how much Bobby had influenced him.

There is a phrase that goes through my head - The Great Man. Whenever I think of John, Bobby, or Martin Luther King, that phrase goes through my head. Now I hear that phrase when I think of Barack Obama. I still get emotional when I hear the song Abraham, Martin, and John. I pray that the song's prophecy does not apply to Barack. I hope that he is allowed to fulfill his destiny.

Thank you for sharing. I am truly sorry that you had to hear the words of that heinous man. If I had any doubts that the Republican party works on the side of evil, they have been washed away.

Westbrook Pegler had a regular feature in the Hearst papers on Sundays. I don't remember much that I read there except that he really hated Eleanor Roosevelt. I just remember that it was epigrammatic and ran along, he really hated Eleanor Roosevelt, and there was a certain guilty pleasure in reading so much nastiness.

Obviously she doesn't read. she jogs, she hunts animals, she's governor of Alaska, she's got five kids including a baby, and at least one out of control teenager, she scours Ebay, she's got no chef, has to spend time on a tanning bed so she's not depressed, she goes to church, she has a husband and according to the Enquirer, did have a boyfriend. I think we can safely assume that she doesn't read books. I think we can also safely assume that she's NEVER read books, at least adult ones. Her degree is BROADCAST JOURNALISM. I taught journalism and trust me, you don't have to read actual books for that.

Thank you. That was hilarious... and kind of scary too.

Sarah has the whole democrat party scared to death that people like you have to come up with rants like this. She has no chef? How is that a negative? Time on a tanning bed is a negative? She lives in Alaska where that is more common than you think. Oh wait. Think? A scared democrat think? Nope. doesn't work.

We are not "scared". There is so little information about Palin that the media jumps on any story. Mabye if your VP candidate did more interviews, people would get to know her, for better or for worse. All the other candidates on both tickets have done multiple interviews over the course of the campaign. Palin has only did one. If she would speak for herself mabye people would stop digging for nuggets of information.

The point was that she lied about not having a chef. The chef still cooks for the family. She just has a different title.

The hostility behind Pegler's quote is astounding. Where do people learn to hate that much?

I miss your Dad, Robert. And I long for the country we would have become under his presidency.

My best to you and your family.

Thank you Mr Kennedy for reminding us all, that the words of what is said by someone is the responsiblitiy of the person who speaks them.
The fact that the words were spoken by Sarah Palin, is true. The fact that the words were those of a racist deprived person, is true. The fact that speeches are used to address theparty base and energize a campaign, is true. The sad fact is that most people would not know who was quoted. Another sad fact is that the the base of Sarah Palin's party does not care who she quoted.
The fact is Sarah Palin is responsible for what Sarah Palin says. If Sarah Palin quotes someone and does not know who she quotes or did not bother to look up who she is quoting highlights her inexperience.
The truth is John Mc Cain chose Sarah Palin to govern with him and replace him as PRESIDENT if something happens to him. The fact is neither one of them has the ability to be PRESIDENT. PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. Really........what happened to voting for the most competent and experienced person to be PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA ?

Republicans lack class!!! I have to believe that this quote was not an oversight but deliberate and maybe a warning to Obama. REMEMBER TO VOTE because Republicans will use every dirty and back-handed trick on Nov. 4th

Do you really know a Republican, or are you quoting the party line?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:55 AM on 09/17/2008

I know many Republicans and obviously not all Republicans are the same. BUT why include this particular quote in this speech, it lacks class and good judgement, something that I believe some Republicans especially the ones currently running and the ones in the last administration are in desperate need of...

this historical sidebar is perhaps of no interest to adventurers bent upon a journey of world exploration without resort to any reference or cartography, but the term 'Anti-Semitic' once included various Arab and Bedouin tribes who, while Muslim, are in addition to Hebrews also ethnic Semites.

True, but the word has long been used to mean "one who is hostile to Jews" and that is how it is now defined in Merriam-Webster. The OED has an equivalent definition.

If Sarah is being told what to say where is her Maverick side or the Pit bull side of her that says she speaks for herself and she's not a puppet. She is being played by McCain and the republican party for the women vote only. What a shame a dog and pony show. A show not worth watching!!

I am posting this from my Blackberry invented by John McCain:

Please, leave Sarah alone. She is tired of all of this. She doesn't even know well where she is putting her feet. The GOP campaign tell her to say this, she says it; they tell her to say that, she does. Please, let her be.
