Carly Fiorina, the 2010 Republican nominee for the Senate representing California, has launched a strong campaign to lure Latinos under two main premises: 1) She has always been a friend of Latinos; and, 2) she holds the same values as Latinos.

Her campaign has launched a website titled "Amigos de Carly" (Friends of Carly) where she appears in a picture banner surrounded by what appear to be Latino business folks. The conservative group American Principles Project has also summoned millions for her and have launched the campaign titled "Tus Valores" (Your Values) in an attempt to make Fiorina appear as if she has always cared for Latino issues.

The problem is that there is absolutely no way to substantiate this. In fact, as recently as the primaries Firoina was speaking out against many of the issues and "values" that Latinos truly hold dear.

As a response the campaign The Real Carly: "Carly No Es Mi Amiga" (Carly Is Not My Friend) duly points out how Fiorina's attempt to lure Latinos is yet another charade of California GOP candidates who can't hide from their recent anti-Latino words and actions.

As part of this effort, The Real Carly: "Carly No Es Mi Amiga" project has put together a video, a more "adequate" picture banner for Fiorina's site, as well as the following top 5 reasons why Fiorina is not a friend of Latinos:

1. Fiorina pretends to be a friend to Latinos, but her positions on immigration, education and health care put her in direct opposition to the values that Latinos hold dear. DO NOT BE FOOLED, Fiorina is not good for Latinos in California.

2. Carly Fiorina fiercely supports SB 1070 and racial profiling in Arizona. In fact, Fiorina was quoted saying, "This law [SB 1070] is necessary because the Federal Government isn't doing its job and the people in Arizona are in danger."

3. Carly Fiorina opposed emergency state aide to help teachers for our schools and Medicaid for our community's poor. The emergency state aid bill saved the jobs of approximately 13,700-16,500 teachers in California and also funded Medicaid programs serving approximately 7 million Californians.

4. California's Latinos need a strong economy, and not a job killer CEO Senator with a history of outsourcing jobs and firing thousands of workers. While CEO of HP, Fiorina outsourced jobs and called the move "smartsourcing." In 2003, she dismissed almost 18,000 people from HP. She had already created job loss in California, and we don't need her to cause any more.

5. Carly Fiorina wants to repeal President Obama's health care bill which would help this nation's uninsured.

Carly is cut from the same mold as Meg.

Nothing made me more uncomfortable than to hear a clip of Meg trying to NOT sound patronizing while attempting Spanish.

It's a safe bet that neither will garnish much of the latino vote, and rightly so. They are both bad for California.

Greenwald and Caballero have a vested interest in not waning a political change in California. Boxer and Feinstein are useless now and for years have not produced much for this economy. On immigration they are wrong too. We need positive changes.

As for Carly Fiorina's statments that she might be more understanding to the culture of the so-called (latinos?),this is possibly a reference to her Italian-Latin background. In fact Carly Fiorina being a Real Latina by culture is more understanding of the problems of the Spanics than anyone else.

She also knows what open borders policies have caused to our economy and way of life. Obviously, as a politicians she has be take into consideration of the needs of all Americans. The way California it's going it needs new people with a vision and not the same politically-correct crowd.

The millennial story of CA is a tale of two cities. The elite aloof celebs on a hill and the slave wage service job state. Neither a sell out Demo nor a outsourcing Rethug can solve our problems. GOP won't tax the rich and libs won't close the border on the poor. The end result? More Western Rome barbarian invasion.

I watched part of the debate and could not believe how Fiorina had to go through all those contortions to try and answer the questions. She did not make a good case for herself. The bottom line is that she was fired from HP even though Boxer was kind enough not to frame it that way. On immigration she must not know that her comments are recorded and on the record. They will be fact checked.

This is why Republicans are unelectable in California at the state level.

They have to say things to make it through the primary that will not allow them to get the votes they need to win the general election.

In this case, she had to come out in support of SB1070 and make disparaging remarks about the same latinos she is now pretending to be friends with.

I wish that Republicans were un-electable on the State level. Unfortunately, California is both the bluest and the reddest of states. It is only the high population density metropolitan regions along the coast that gives California its lauded Democratic reputation . . . Unfortunately, over the last thirty years there has been a sizeable influx of more recessivist minded folk from red states and the demographics has shifted negatively. Through in all the anti-democratic propositions sponsored by big moneyed groups and folks (like our present Governor) and Republicans have been given getting fairly regular bites at sewering our Great State’s finances and privatize our Commons.

Why do you people post about race and hate? You should look at the qualifications of both and figure out what benefits you and your family / friends. If you feel all latinos are illegal, don't work, live off the state and then push boxer; get a life that's not real. Fine Carly fired people at HP, well that maybe called working as some people need to be fired to decrease costs. Unions would not have allowed that and guess what HP might not be here today. By no means am I justifying her actions but providing a point of view as the writers seem to be very political.

Spend some time listening to Boxer & Carly discuss or argue issues for her constituents. When I've heard Boxer she didn't know what she's talking about, tries to use big words and looks stupid. Then when real questions about the economy came up during the financial collapse she showed her true colors. Not left or right just plain old crazy! Now look at CA. We're broke, inefficient and can't do anything right. This means all our leaders need to go from Governor, senator, congressman and more importantly our state government, even the city leaders are corrupt. So we either need to clean house, deal with it or get ready to make some tough choices.

PS how is letting teachers go against Latinos? Maybe she understands how to read a balance sheet and cut costs unlike our leaders today.

Sure vote Fiorina and let her carry on with the same Corporate crap that nearly ruined more than one great American company (Hewlett-Packard & Lucient).

BUT, REMEMBER she doesn't believe in the American people.... She's one of those "outsourcing is good for America" corporate hacks. I was there when she stated that, "Americans no longer have God given right to a job."

She is completely pro-BIG business, anti-American worker. As HP CEO, she instigated the firing of thousands and thousands and thousands of American technical and expert employees and moved those high-paying jobs to India, China, Costa Rica, and even Russia where labor is CHEAP and require no benefits, health insurance, or environmental protections. ..... Go ahead and vote for her.... When you do, you deserve what you get and you will be VERY, VERY SORRY.

You must not be listening to the same Senator Boxer I am.

Fiorina is another politician wannabe with absolutely NO credentials to support her bid, not even the dubious credential of being successful in business.

She failed utterly during her stint at Hewlett-Packard.

California does not need anymore amateurs.

Bob,
are you calling Chicanos unAmerican if they don't vote for Barbara Boxer?
04:07 AM on 09/01/2010
Carly is endorsed by the teabaggers and Sista Sarah. That's enough to make me not vote for her.

Carly will have a steep hill; she has the personality of B. Boxer going for her Boxer's rejoinder to the general who referred to her as M'am during her public questioning of him two months ago. No one likes Boxer to begin with.

Thanks for the shameless use of the Race Card, Mr Greenwald. Do you automatically assume that all Latinos only vote for Latino interests, instead of, you know, AMERICAN interests? Can't someone vote for their country and not their race, or are you assuming that all Latinos are brown-supremists? You contend that tolerating illegal immigration is a "Latino value". Well, the rest of Latin America didn't get that memo, because in Mexico, they treat illegal aliens with shocking brutality.

You're such a dishonest race-baiter. You don't care about Latinos. You're just using them to win elections and promote your left-wing agenda.
06:07 PM on 08/31/2010
What the hell are "American" interests? It seems to me that people like Fiorina represent the interests of very racist, biased, even uneducated people. "American" interests should be, I don't know, job growth, education, health care, etc. Tolerating illegal immigration is not a Latino value, but respect for citizens is. And why bring MX into this, first we don't care what they do until it suddenly envolves us. So maybe he is promoting a left wing agenda, but Fiorina is promoting her right wing agenda then trying to pander to a group she cares nothing about for a few extra votes. I hope she loses.
06:44 PM on 08/31/2010
Nice input, Foxy. California is over $20 Billion in debt and you want Sen Barbara "Call me Senator, not maam" Boxer? It's time for change. BTW: SB1070 has absolutely nothing to do with race baiting. That is a lie. Boxer must be desperate for votes if this kind of rhetoric is already out there..
03:54 PM on 08/31/2010
You don't give real latinos enough credit to be able to figure this out for themselves?

Because some Latinos are much more comfortable reading complex articles like this in Spanish rather than English.

You need to look up pandering in the dictionary if you think that's what pandering.

Misrepresenting your own beliefs to gain support from people that otherwise wouldn't support you is pandering.

I'm not from California, but I've been there a couple of times. Seems to me I heard you'll was bankrupt and the rest of the nation was going to have to subsidize your state. If you vote for the same people who caused your state to go broke, isn't that working against your own self interest (I get accused of that a lot myself) If you want to change things from the status quo I think you have to start with your leaders
(or lack there of).........but again I don't live there, and I don't think I would.

Well you are talking about a US Senate seat how does Boxer or Feinstein cause the economic problems of California. The economic issues of California are systemic and based in a long history of poliices going back to passage of Prop 13.
04:01 AM on 09/01/2010
For the most part CA has had Republican Governors since the days of Reagan. So yes, we do need to get a Dem, Jerry Brown in office.

As for Carly, why would anyone want one of the WORST CEO's in the history of American business elected to anything?
12:51 PM on 08/31/2010
Smartsourcing? What's so smart about sending any job to another country. Carly is just another member of a long line of over priced schemers that populate the GOP. I'm not overly pleased with either of our CA senators, but Boxer at least appears to have a heart. I do like it when she stands up to boys from the military at senate hearings . This country needs a single pay HC system, whether the GOP likes it or not. Dems that oppose it should be kicked out of the party.
05:52 PM on 08/31/2010
Diffidently, I'd like to point out i don't know how to characterize a "heart' ,in terms of caring. But, I do know how to characterize a "brain". I doubt any debate between Ms Fiorina and Ms Boxer (tou,know-heavyweight vs light weight ) would be sanctioned by the IBC.
Still, keep wishin ,and hopin and prayin (but not thinking). that will bring jons back to California.
