Not only does John McCain have at least 10 properties he can't remember, but he also owns a parking lot in Phoenix Arizona worth between $1.4 and $2.4 million. That's over $1 million more than the average American home!
It's no wonder McCain has said time and time again that the "fundamentals of the economy are strong." He's living in the land of affluence, and has no concept of just how terrible our economy has become under President Bush. According to the U.S. Census, 37.3 million people were living in poverty in 2007. 45.7 million (15.3 percent of the population) don't have health insurance—a staggering number that has risen by 6 million since Bush took office in 2001. And yet McCain extols Bush's economy and proposes his own policies that would sink our country further into debt.
AFL-CIO President John Sweeney said that when it comes to the economy,
"I think John McCain is wrong. He doesn’t even know how many homes he has. … We’ve seen the McCain position as just a continuation of the Bush Administration. It’s President Bush’s policies that got us into the mess that we have now. And it’s not only a short term crisis, it’s long term and it has to be addressed. Workers are having a tough time. The wage inequality that’s out there is unbelievable, and health care and retirement security are threatened. Those are some of the reasons that we’re not supporting John McCain."
When we launched McCain's Mansions, you recognized that McCain is out of touch with hard-working Americans. That's why you spread it around and got the mainstream media to take notice and question McCain on this issue. It exposed McCain for the elitist he really is, and turned our ailing economy into a number one issue for Democrats.
Now's your chance to keep the economy front and center by spreading McCain's Million Dollar Parking Lot. Let everyone know that while the majority of Americans are struggling to make mortgage payments and pay for necessities like health insurance and gas, John McCain has a parking lot worth $1 million more than the average home.

Being Rich isn't a crime, but do you really want a man so insulated from the realities of the economy in charge?
The issue of who is elitist was one the Republicans brought on themselves. The fact that John Sidney McCain III was born into a well connected Navel family and that he used those connections to squeak through the Navel Academy (5th from the bottom of the class), the fact that he left a disfigured wife and family to marry his Wealthy mistress, the fact that he lives off of her inherited wealth and that wealth keeps him from understanding the realities of everyday Americans is all pertinent because the Republicans chose to open that door.
Yes the campaign should be about issues not personalities. But if the Republicans choose to make the debate about who is or who isn’t elite, they have no room for complaint when they are skewered with their own sword.
Too much emphasis on John and Cindy's assets makes the Dems sound like communists. So he has solid investments, who cares? People own parking lots. They are useful in our car-dominated culture. Being rich is not a crime and certainly should not disqualify someone from the presidency.
Kid - you clearly don't get it. The issue isn't about being rich, and it's not about begrudging hard earned wealth. It's the American dream, after all.
It's about being a hypocrite. The republicans have made no apologies for bashing Obama for supposedly being "elitist", and made much of his "upper class" Chicago townhouse.
As much as you might want to, you can't have it both ways.
Dutchman
i wish the mccain's would adopt me....sure they'd annoy the sh_t out of me but at least i'd be living lavish
i
it wouldn't be too bad if I could live at one of the houses they forgot about.
I'd like his parking lot...
heck they don't even talk to the half sisters -- what makes you think you could get adopted...
Now, let's be fair. The McCain family probably has $10 million worth of cars. Cindy's limos got to park somewhere. Dag ya'll!
Certainly there's a deeper story here about how McCain ended up with a parking lot used by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Political scandal... Karl Rove would have a field day with this if he didn't hate America.
Why does he own a parking lot?
Investment purposes. An investment in a parking lot is a great investment. Very little overhead means almost all profit.
Not only does it bring in revenue, but the value of the land increases as more commercial space develops around it due to the available parking. When the time is right, watch him - more likely her, though - build something on the land with parking underneath at 5 times the current rate.
because he makes a *bleep* load of money from it and with said money he can purchase a home ..... or something.

Time magazine does an interview in which McCain says that Iraq "is a peaceful and stable country now" (no misleading context, it is a straight-up evaluation of the conditions on the gound today) and Time leaves that part of the interview out of the story.
Is this worse than Katie Couric cutting and pasting questions and answers to keep a McCain gaffe under wraps and out of the msm?
Why isn't HP on this story?
No wonder he wants to drill more! He's gotta feed all those cars who park in his garages. God forbid people should start using public transportation! How will John McCain make money? (Ok, he's got his lobbyist friends to fall back on, but still.)
nice!
Excellent ad! I've got some other ideas for future ads:
- An ad containing a series of clips showing John McCain's tendency to forget everything: (Shia/Suni, # of houses, Czech Republic, etc..). THEME: Can we afford to risk putting our country's National Security into the hands of someone who can't remember anything?
- An ad containing a series of clips showing John McCain's anger where he loses his cool. THEME: Can we afford to risk putting our country's National Security into the hands of someone who can't handle the pressures inherent in the Presidency?
- An ad containing a series of clips showing John McCain's previous statements on things that he's now flip flopped on. THEME: Can we trust our National Security to this man?
We MUST find a way to send these really good ideas to Obama's camp
I just forwarded them to David Plouffe at Obama's, giving credit to EspressoAtNoon, of course.
Actually I think Brave New films has touched on all of those except the anger issue. Seriously check out the website, it is full of goodies.
Great article, the more i learn about the McCain's fortune, the more "fortunate" i feel for voting Obama/Biden ticket, please show more videos like this until people understand who's the real John McSame!!!
"Paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
McEnvironment
"Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot." Remember the song? I have always thought it wasn't going to be a reality but it appears more likely to happen with McCain and his lobbyist friends who deny global warming and just like Bush and cronies want to give freely to big business at the expense of the country and us. How many lobbyists does it take to lose the rest of the jobs we have? India has taken over the newsprint/book editing and printing. The generic medications we get for the cheap prices comes from either China or India along with other third world countries the meds are funneled through to those countries before coming to us. MCCain's visits to Columbia and Mexico etc is to give away more contracts and jobs to the companies working cheap. He hasn't a care about the citizens as long as he is comfortable and with CIndy's money and all the houses/jet and clothes from overseas designers he's fine. we are not.
I agree that it does not matter than he is rich through marriage or we would have tossed out John Kerry for the same offense. What does matter is that he is either so out of touch with the American public that he has no clue what real people are facing. One of his advisors just said there are NO Americans without health care (because they can use the emergency rooms) UNBELIEVABLE! Tell that to someone who was diagnosed with cancer or had a car accident with no health insurance. They will be bankrupt!
He either does not know how many homes he owns because he is so hands off or he lied about it. Which is worse?
Quick John, how many cars do you have? John? John? What's your name, John?
"Well I do remember that I didn't have any cars or any place to park when I was near death in a prison camp for 5 and half years. And that experience obviously qualifies me to be President, maybe even Emperor."
