Bill Clinton: Take a Vacation

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

If ever someone needed to take a vacation and leave the campaign trail it is the former president of the United States Bill Clinton.

If the Democratic Party wants to have any hope of being a united party in November party leaders -- other than the leader of the party -- Bill Clinton -- need to tell Hillary's husband that he is doing much more harm than good to the Democratic Party by his remarks against Obama.

If the two term former president wants to keep his excellent post-presidency reputation intact he should go back to his philanthropic activities and his business at his presidential library and the Clinton Initiative programs.

If the first serious woman running for president of the United States wants to prove she can win the White House on her own merit she should tell her husband to move to Sweden or some other country far away from upcoming primary states.

If the Democratic presidential contest is not to drift down to its lowest level about who was friends with what slum landlord or who was on this or that board of directors of unpopular corporations then Bill Clinton should find a hobby other than politics.

If Democrats don't want to give away their high ground -- after all they are not the party with the unpopular president currently in the White House -- they should all encourage Hillary's husband to exit stage left.

The overall tone of the Democratic presidential campaign has gone downhill since the 42nd president of the United States started taking such an active--and mainly, negative role--in the campaign.

The discussion has gone away from the key issues of the day from Iraq to solving the housing crisis and other economic ills to name calling and arguing over really nothing at all in order only to score political points.

William Jefferson Clinton is an astute politician, probably one of the best political minds in the past fifty years, who appears to have lost his exceptional skills campaigning for his wife.

It now looks as if President Clinton's remarks and actions are helping his wife's main opponent, Senator Obama. It is very unfair for Obama to have to respond to two Clintons these days. After all, it is Hillary that is the one running for president. This is rapidly being lost as the former president continues to give talks discussing the "glory days" of his presidency.

If Hillary and the others are using the the word "change" in every other sentence having your spouse talk about going back to the days of his presidency in the 1990s certainly is not change. And, it is not experience to talk about your husband's presidency either.

Hillary is being overshadowed by her husband on the campaign trail. We are not going to be voting for a return to a Bill Clinton presidency. Hillary has to explain how she will provide "change" for the country. Having a spouse talking about the past isn't going to do it for her.

And, having a spouse who is taking away from her message on the economy and foreign policy issues is petty and demeaning for a former president of the United States.

Watching the Clintons one wonders how much they really want power to help the country or how much they really want power to have power again.

Now that the former president has interjected himself front and center in the campaign of his wife it is time for voters to ask what role will he play in her White House if she is elected.

America actually can survive without a Bush or Clinton in the White House. Voters realize it is time for a change -- hopefully both Clintons will wake up to the fact that we aren't voting for a restoration of Bill's presidency but voting for a candidate with new ideas of his or her own.

Bill, go to Sweden or Hong Kong or somewhere far away from the campaign trail and let your wife run for president on her own. The other candidates seem to be doing just fine running on their own. Hillary, go out on the campaign trail without Bill and battle Obama and Edwards on your own.

Hillary, if you can't win against your Democratic opponents on your own how do you hope to beat your Republican opponent in the fall if you get the nomination.

As a voter, I want to vote for only one person for president--not a husband and wife team to occupy the Oval Office!

Willie should start to run for Jr. Senator in the State of New Yoork. He can vie for the position against Gulliani.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one wishing Bill Clinton would STFU and stay out of the presidential nomination race. Alas, I fear that he cares less for the future of the Democratic Party than he does for a chance at another four or eight years pulling the levers of power. He may also wish to ingratiate himself with his wife as penance for his sexual dalliances, but whatever the reason, he is dirtying the waters of the Democratic nomination process and playing right into the hands of Republican strategists. Way to wreck a legacy, Bill!

You've expressed my sentiments perfectly. My spouse and I have already cast our absentee California votes for Obama. This is precisely because, watching Bill Clinton (whom I voted for twice), I fear that he wants to get back to the White House so badly that he has lost his judgement, once again. As he did when debating the meaning of the word "is". Once installed at 1600, will we be able to detect that it is in fact MRS. Clinton who is the president? Or will we have to, once again, subjugate the needs of the country to the soap opera that is their private life?

Bill Clinton can rescue his reputation later.
Hillary CAN'T win without him and his political bag o' tricks.

The Clintons care about NOTHING other than their quest to return to the whitehouse.

There are your answers.

I suggest that Mr. Guttman watch the Jon Stewart clip on this website today!! Take a look and it will show you how the media is making this shit up about Bill Clinton and Mitt Romney, truly making up stories just like FOX NOISE. The media, like you, have clearly ceased to report the news, but rather create it. See Chris Matthews who has been roundly criticized for his BS. Look at the facts, if you can, it was Obama's campaign that created a four page talking points memo suggesting the Clintons were racists - Tim Russert held it up in his hands at the Nevada debate. Who's fault was that?? Duhh, I dunno maybe Bill Clinton's. Look at the video this is a fact. Next, in Nevada Obama's campaign aired a super negative radio ad against Hillary in all Spanish. Gee, I wonder if being called a racists and being slimmed by your opponnent might at least make you more agressive?? That's when things started to get heated in Nevada. And, by the way that's when Bill Clinton and Edwards and others started to take note of Obama's stupid Reno Gazzette interview and sharply contrast themselves. The Media, like you, are making this bigger than it really is and clearly spinning against Clinton without evidence to support it, when the facts clearly suggest that the Obama camp is the original source of the VERY DIRTY POLITICS. Fortunately, in Nevada and New Hampshire the people of this country told the media spin machines to take a hike and ignored them and their silly polls.

Is Bill behaving in this campaign like he did with Monica? Can he not stop himself? The Washington Post has an article about how the bonds of the Clintons and the African American community are being frayed by Bill's attitude yet he doesn't seem to be able to stop. This is a tragedy. It will end up hurting Hillary, Obama, the Democratic Party and Bill's relationship with African Americans as well as his legacy. Someone needs to help this guy get a grip.

Right on, Mr. Guttman! I like Bill, but he needs to keep a low profile!

completely agreed. I am a lifelong Democrat and have been rather ashamed by the Clintons' deceitful politicking over the past few months. .and ultimately, I am now planning to vote for Obama in California's primaries this Feb. 5th. .

Huffers don't want anyone else horning in on their business. Guttman must not read the kind of negative postings that HuffPo routinely uses to denigrate Hillary.

It would be nice if Bill listened to voices of reason for a change, instead of barking at everyone who catches him in his web of lies. He no longer has credibility. I wonder how much they charged Rezko to appear in a photo with him? Now they pretend they don't know him just like they did Peter Paul. See this:

If the Clintons insist on running on their collective record, people need to call them on it. Hillary's healthcare reform, for example, was very similar to Cheney's energy panel. It featured secret meetings, lobbyists, and no public input. Yet, she's managed to avoid answering questions about it. Also, Bill's treatment of Lewinsky is textbook sexual harrassment. He used his position of power to gain sexual favors from a subordinate while in the workplace. Why don't feminists take issue with his abhorrent behavior?

Couldn't have said it better, Mr. Guttman.

It is one thing for Bill and Hillary to have a sick relationship but to show it off in public is tawdry to say the least. We need people with integrity and that is a quality they do not have. They should move to hollywood and make movies.
