A once extremely successful entrepreneur of the oil and gas industry, Robert M. Edsel sold everything to relocate to Europe with his family in 1996. Edsel here discovered a newfound passion for the arts and architecture, as well as a curiosity about the art and iconic monuments that survived the carnage of World War II, and the unsung heroes that rose to the occasion to preserve them. This seemingly uncomplicated question began to unravel a slew of mysteries surrounding daring individuals who were willing to save the greatest art and cultural treasures for the enhancement of mankind. Edsel set aside seven years of his life to meticulously search and reveal these “Monuments Men” in the hopes of making their efforts known and recognized by all far and wide. In addition to writing The Monuments Men and his debut book, "Rescuing Da Vinci", Edsel created a non-profit foundation to honor the heritage of the Monuments Men. He also was able to work with Congress to ratify a resolution in the House and Senate to acknowledge their contributions. A writer and now co-producer of a documentary film, "The Rape of Europa", available on DVD, Edsel also produced an educational DVD entitled "The Greatest Theft in History". He currently resides in Dallas, Texas.
