Wal Mart's War on America

I received the following yesterday in my inbox, from Jim Campi, communications director of the Civil War Preservation Trust: "Stop the Wilderness Wal Mart!" http://www.civilwar.org/walmart08/

I'm a member of the CWPT, and have been for many years. It has done some excellent work in buying and preserving land that literally cannot be replaced--the privately owned battlefields of the Civil War. Now, I like to think of myself as a realist on things like this. We can't save every speck of land that a boy in Blue or Gray walked across, or for that matter, undo what has already been done.

But what we, the American people, can do is stop any more of it being abused simply because it is available.

In Spotsylvania County, Virginia, west and south of the town of Fredericksburg, sits the Wilderness/Chancellorsville Battlefield. In a pair of brutal battles (Chancellorsville in 1863, the Wilderness in 1864), tens of thousands of Americans were killed and wounded. In the Wilderness, the battle was fierce and confusing, as what was normally long battle lines of men standing shoulder to shoulder became more like organized human hunting. When the wounded were left by the opposing sides, and as it was a dry winter that year and the woods caught afire during the fighting, the screams of the men as they burned to death echoed throughout the woods. Veterans decades later would break into tears at the memories of the young soldiers, boys mostly, having to spend their last moments on Earth in a living hell.

On this hallowed ground, that icon of American consumerism, Wal Mart, plans to build a 141,000 square foot SuperCenter. Where you can buy such things as Twinkies for 2 cents less, disposable cups with your favorite sports hero emblazoned on the side, all while being met by the greeter making minimum wage at the front door, helped by the stock boy who makes minimum wage, and checked out by the cashier who makes minimum wage. But hey, it brings jobs, right?

Wal Mart is building on sacred, irreplaceable land, where men in blue died to defend the Union and free the slaves, and where their brothers in gray died as well.

Ooops. I shouldn't have said "Union" and "Wal Mart" in the same sentence.

Perhaps that is why they are planning on paving our heritage. Support the saving of our heritage, so that decades from now, when a Wal Mart SuperCenter is finished sucking the resources and life from a small community and has moved on to another victim, we will still have a quiet piece of land where we can bring our children and remember what the cost of freedom truly means.

You're going to stop Walmart by appealing to their sense of history and doing the right thing?

Good luck with that.

Wal-mart is not a business anymore; it is a national case of economic herpes. All over our land scape the are buildings with blue and white signs that say to the economically disadvantaged come and buy our cheap crap from Bangledesh with the made in the USA tags on it. Drop by and you can fill out an employment applicant and maybe if hired you might make enough buy the new paint you always wanted for that "I will work for food sign" you carry around with you. Wal-mart your greed of money and gluttony of space and land hath no boundries.

The NWO (as stated on the Georgia Guidestones) wants to remove our history and religion and replace it with a new one. I would say this is a good step forward.

Assuming I was a Warcriminal, Genocidal Murderous Neo-Con Fascist.

As I am not, I recommend arming up and "battling" Walmart and leave their bodies burning alive in the store, as a reminder for what their ancestors died for.

It will get built, why? Because china-marts PR machine is granking up right now and will do it's d*mnest to prove to the sons and daughters of the south that a china-mart built upon their ancestors blood is everything they want and more.

Expect a PR spokesperson to come out wringing their hands and lamenting on how china-mart is sensitive to the needs of the people and have planned a plastic monumont in memory to the fallen soldiers right in the middle of the parking lot next to the all you can eat hotdog stand. They will then entice the mouthbreathers with free "civil war hot dogs" and "commemorative" plastic battle field 62 oz mugs of coke, not for free, but something next to free. (can't let the folks think that china-mart gives anything away for free)

So while the morons in the immediate area bask in the fluorescent glow of the new china-mart, all will be forgotten soon enough and memory of the thousands of men and boys that where shot and burned to death during that horrible battle will be a distant memory when they need that 400 pack of depends.

we have a very sad and depressing existance as "modern" american citizens.

The movie "Poltergeist" comes to mind. Perhaps building on the sacred land will enrage the ancient spirits of the past. I envision twinkies flying across the aisles in a fierce battle with superheroes on plastic cups. Walmart represents the slave masters of our future, so it's indicative of their goals that they would overshadow the battles that freed so many Americans from past bondage. Our economic slavery to Walmart only becomes worse as we our sold down river.

Being now at a cynical zenith, I say this;

Let them do it. What's more, as they excavate the area in preparation, should they find any bone fragments, let them turn them into mobiles with bits of Civil War era glass and bullet casings. Maybe
then the sheeple in this country will wake up to what unfettered corporatism is really all about.

The mind numbing zombie like acceptance, by people in this country, who while they fill their ears with I-pod buds, distract their eyes with Paris Hilton videos, and numb their brains with the machinations of "Big Brother" housemates, are allowing the ugly truths of our lives in this country, to consume the world.
If there is hope, it is slim. If we can change, it better be soon. If not, prepare for the end that the wacko Evangelical lunatic fringe so ardently want.

Say your prayers, kiddies!

Walmart and all the Walton clan - you can all go to H&ll and stay there. Walmart and Sam's Club won't get another penny from me - ever!

Walmart has no soul-
That's why I boycott them.
After building in Guatemala, I have no respect for Walmart.

Walmart built a superstore at Teotihuacan, MX. They dug up the bones of my ancestors to build the parking lot.

There are over 900 Walmarts in Mexico. Doing what they do here, driving the local competition out of business.

It is true they create jobs and lower prices. But the cost of ruining family owned and operated stores is immeasurable in dollars and cents but the cost to society is evident.

There are spirits at the war for southern independence ruins and they too should not be disturbed.

These spirits live in a dimension parallel to ours.

We must respect them. And they will respect us.

Before I knew this I despised what Wal Mart stands for.

Now I am again embarrassed for the US that we export this kind of callous materialism, destroying history in the process.

I guess the W in Wal mart really stands for White.

Two words: "Carlos Slim."

Mexicans do it, too.

All peoples have those few individuals that give in to the all mighty dollar.

Wal-Mart opens at Teotihuacan

Despite widespread objections, the retail giant opens its doors to local shoppers.

-Viernes 05 de noviembre de 2004

TEOTIHUACAN, State of Mexico A Wal-Mart-owned discount store quietly opened its doors Thursday less than a mile from the ancient temples of Teotihuacan, despite months of protests claiming the sprawling complex was an insult to Mexican culture.

Protesters have held hunger strikes and blockades backed by machetes in an effort to stop the discount store, which bears the name of Wal-Mart subsidiary Bodega Aurrera. Many had said the boxy, concrete building would spoil the view from the ruins, including the towering Pyramid of the Sun climbed by hundreds of tourists each day.

Yet no opponents were present Thursday afternoon as the store opened for business, welcoming hundreds of people who had waited most of the day to shop. The store celebrated the opening with fireworks and employees shouting "Yes we can!" ...

The dispute in Teotihuacan a town built next to the ruins of the 2,000-year-old metropolis has illustrated how the allure of low prices and U.S. lifestyles often wins out in Mexico.

"I respect my roots, but I also defend progress and development," said Juan Rosas, 34, waiting for the store to open with a crowd of shoppers who began chanting: "Next we want a movie theater!" ...

Has anyone asked Wall Mart how it feels to want what they should not and can not have?
I think there are enough Wall Mart and big box stores in this country, we need to consider getting back to those Mom and Pop kind of stores as they were always better at what the did and they cared about the community. Wall Mart is a community leech, they just go in and suck the community dry.

i have not been, unfortunately, to this particular battlefield; but have to gettysburg and antietam. they are truly hallowed ground and one is deeply touched by the tragedies of our worst battles being fought against ourselves. let's hope walmart will reconsider this insult to america's past from which we need to re-learn those lessons today.
