McCain Raises Cash in London

Remember when Bill Clinton evaded questions about pot smoking by saying that he had never broken the laws of his country? It came to mind when I read today about John McCain's capping his <> non-political trip with a fundraiser at Spencer House in London.

I'm not wondering about the law prohibiting foreign nationals from contributing to McCain's campaign. I'm wondering about the one prohibiting him from withdrawing from the public financing system if he used the promise of matching funds as collateral.

What ever happened to that story?

Of course he is. Tony Blair is open for business isn't he?

I guess he's afraid the dollar he's raised doesn't go that far anymore.

What are the disclosure rules for the foreign fundraisers? Does this money go towards Sen. Presidential campaign's coffers that is to be matched wuth public funds? Or is this fundraising that will go to one of Sen. McCain's 527's or one of his foundations?

How many wealthy Americans live in England who want John McCain as president. Of course, there shouldn't be any not-wealthy people anywhere who want John McCain as president that goes without saying, however, shouldn't someone be covering that story? If not, the media truly is warped.

What makes you think that the media has the money for reporters in the UK? It takes $2 US to get a UK Pound & $1.56 to get an Euro. The price of sending data from the UK to the USA is going up too.

Its OK, he's a republican. Laws don't apply.

well since obama is holding up FEC appointments there can be no ruling on mccain and the public system. if a democrat wasn't interferring with mccain and the FEC it would have been resolved.

That's right. Obama put a hold on the appointees, so the decision is up in the air. Both Obama and McCain are, and have been, traveling all over the country fundraising.

Since McCain is a republican, the story has been dropped. Had he been a democratic contender, it would be sharing the front page with the Spitzer fiasco. I wonder how much he collected from the donors in London? The British people DESPISE Bush with a passion. My relatives over there think the American people must be really stupid to put him in office for 2 terms. They will be glad to have him fade into obscurity when his term is over. Mediocrity is not something they admire in a "leader" Kind of looking forward to their opinion of ol' Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.

I agree with your sentiments but "we" didn't give Bush two terms, he stole both, and our 'democratic poodles' failed to put up a fight. "We' then put our faith in Pelosi to stop the insanity and she and Reid betrayed us!
And don't get me started about how they didn't have the votes, thats an excuse, Pelosi had a mandate from 70% of America and she blew it.

No, we did not give Georgie 2 terms, but the British people had no idea that voter fraud was rampant in the US, so it appeared that he really was voted into office. I agree that the democratic leadership has been absent when it comes to doing the people's work. They were elected to end this invasion, and they failed. Maybe it is time to clean house, and get them all out of the Washington cesspool.

I have no idea who will the election in November, but there's one thing I do know for sure: if McCain wins, Democrats will whine that the election was stolen.

Also you seem to misunderstand what Pelosi means by not having the votes. She's referring to the number of congressional votes needed to override a presidential veto, which has to be 67% of both the House and Senate. Democrats in the House do not outnumber Republicans by more than 67%, so unless she can get some Republicans to vote her way, the House can't override Bush's veto.

That story was buried by a cooperative press. Much like we found with the press spotlighting Kerry's palatial estate, owned by his wife, and describing McCain's palatial estate, owned by his wife, as a "rustic cabin". ROFLOL. Or at least I would if it weren't so blatant it's scary.

Yeah, it's kind of funny how we don't hear much about McCain marrying into money. He came back from Vietnam, divorced the woman who'd been waiting for him, and married Cindy the liquor magnate's daughter. (Just a coincidence she's rich.) Such an honorable man. Real character.

Don't hear much about that side of saint John McCain, do we now?

Actually he married Cindy one freaking MONTH after divorcing his sick wife. Judith Nathan ain't the only home wrecking whore to vie for the First Lady spot.
