Rove-isionist History: U.S. Not Involved in the World pre-9/11

In case you missed Bush's Brain on Fox News Sunday, he produced a giggler of a nugget of revisionist history. As I point out over on Robert Emmet, Karl Rove, Bush's former top political adviser, said that the U.S. was not involved in the world before 9/11. Huh?

Rove ran Bush in 2000 on an isolationist platform. Back then, the sock on Rove's hand was proclaiming that Clinton was too quick to commit American troops overseas. The sock said we were too embroiled in foriegn imbroglios, (Actually. he didn't say 'imbroglio', He thinks that is an Italian shoe), particularly in the middle east. As Clinton was brokering high level negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, Bush was arguing we should be less not more involved in the process. Bush led the Republicans in their universal condemnation of so called nation building pointing to ongoing instabilities in the former Yugoslavia. Although those efforts seem to have produced some positive results, the same cannot be said of their new found belief as applied in Iraq. You cannot reconcile their statements on nation building, pre 911 with their actions since.
Somebody within this junta once said they make their own reality. Truth is they make up their own unreality as they go along. This administration is filled with people who hate government and the outside world. They ran around for years with their little bumper sticker aphorisms, like "Get America out of the UN and the UN out of America". The Supreme Court put in power a bunch of disestablishmentarians. We should not be too surprised with the result.

To his way of thinking, it probably wasn't. The United States was not then engaged in an overt effort at world domination; or at least domination of the oil supplies.

Perhaps not overt. PNAC, the wellspring of the neocons, certainly had their eyes on the prize well before 9/11.

What? And all of the little foxes in TV land nodded their approval. Murdoch is no fool. Do you think he would serve up such mindless dribble if there was no market for it? Maybe one day, we will discover it was all just tongue-in-cheek, and the joke was on us. OK....does anyone else have a better explanation? Damn, it's late! Good luck everyone...CFF

Ridiculous. But now the conservatives will all be saying it.

Rove is a consumate liar. In a way, his words are helpful. They show the world that Rove will say anything at any time to spin an argument in his direction. The facts do not matter and the more blatant the lie the more Rove seems to relish it. He must think all Americans are children. We have no knowledge of anything prior to 9-11 and all our views can be shaped by him. He is a dreadful individual and it is even odd, in a way, his lies are so transparent. With one who is supposed to be as steeped in history as Rove, he should be able to come up with better constructions. If only he is sworn under oath, he will lie his way to jail.

Why would anybody expect truth from ANY political strategist, especially Rove?
