Let's take this intelligent design concept and run with it. Let's assume that there is an Intelligent Designer. He created this universe in general and our world specifically according to a brilliant plan. Then He (or She, depending on your personal beliefs), left it pretty much in control of humans. The next question might be, "Is the design a self-running program, or does the Programmer step in to make corrections from time to time?" That's kind of an interesting question, don't you think? The answer has to be yes or no. If it's no, I can't help but wonder why the Designer would create this place and then let it go to hell, so to speak. If the answer is yes, that raises another interesting question. Last year, five hurricanes struck Florida -- a red state. This year, Florida has been hit twice, Louisiana and Mississippi (red states) have been devastated, North Carolina (red state again!) got flooding from a little tropical storm, and now another major hurricane is barreling down on Texas, the red state homeland.
If I tried to figure out a message there, I might think the Designer is trying to tell us that our habits as a species are messing with the design and maybe we should elect someone who will do something about it. Or maybe it has nothing to do with the environment at all. Maybe this Designer is just angry that we've put our faith in a pseudo-Christian who screws poor people and starts wars, all in the name of Christ. I don't know, of course. I'm just a believer stuck down here on this planet trying to figure it all out. But if global warming isn't causing these hurricanes, maybe the Designer is. Any other suggestions about what His message might be?
