(46) Comments | Posted July 15, 2014 | 4:29 PM

My 'Naked' Truth

(3671) Comments | Posted July 12, 2014 | 7:24 AM

Naked, I stood at the closet doors with the lights on and made myself ready. I took a deep breath and positioned the mirrors so I could see all of me. I consciously worked to remove my self-believed inner image. I opened my...

I Refuse!

(3) Comments | Posted July 1, 2014 | 1:50 PM

When shopping recently, I blithely told the sales person that I was "pushing 60," smugly thinking to myself that I am still just 59. She remarked, "Gee, you look wonderful for your age!" (I always hate the "for your age" codicil that is...

The Pieces of Me

(0) Comments | Posted June 24, 2014 | 3:30 PM

A year ago, I began a journey home -- to me, to myself. It was time. I was tired of feeling the way I had been feeling and behaving the way I had been behaving. There was a sense of a "repeatedness" to...

The Fear Factor

(3) Comments | Posted June 17, 2014 | 5:36 PM

As I look back over the years of my life -- the good, the bad and the just plain crazy -- fear has been the driving force of so much of what I have done and what I have allowed others to do...

It's Okay to Stop Looking

(9) Comments | Posted June 10, 2014 | 12:50 PM

It's been a few months now since I took my profile off the dating sites and deleted those "possible" or "kinda, sorta, maybe" men from my cell phone. The last one, the one that had been riding my heart for more than a...

The 'Rules' I Choose to Live By

(3) Comments | Posted June 3, 2014 | 8:16 AM

As my years are folding one into the other, I have come to the immutable fact that there really are no outside "rules" in life that really work. They are dictated and designed by someone else. So they reside exterior to my own...

There Are No Ordinary Moments

As the days of my life become years, I am amazed at the speed with which time moves. Events and incidences, large and small, swing past and around me causing me often to blink in surprise and wonder. It is rather like watching...

Our Lives Are Meant to Be Amazing, Beautiful and Brave

(0) Comments | Posted May 14, 2014 | 11:16 AM

As we become grownups, many of us set aside the soul-wide and wonder-shot participation in the world that we knew as children. The social screws that hold the hinges of our behavior are drilled early on, causing us to keep that really gritty...

When It's Time to Say Goodbye

(3) Comments | Posted May 7, 2014 | 11:03 AM

More than a few of us will probably say goodbye to a spouse or two before we are through with our journey in the here and now. We grow and change. They don't. They grow and change. We don't. It is all a matter of perspective and probably the most...

Is It Serenity or Just Not Giving a Damn?

(2) Comments | Posted April 30, 2014 | 3:50 PM

At 59 years of age, I am well aware that a lot more than half my life has been lived. I find myself bemused by this fact, as well as interested in the process of aging as a whole. This "being a person...

Our Children: Here and Gone

(0) Comments | Posted April 21, 2014 | 6:09 PM

We so eagerly await them, dread them, desire them and then despair of them. Our children are our greatest blessings and our most brutal teachers. We cannot give them back, nor return them from whence they came. Once here, their claim on us is the pivot upon which so much...

Living the 'Dream'

(0) Comments | Posted April 16, 2014 | 12:13 PM

A younger woman wore my clothes. An older woman held my soul. A teenage heart called my dreams. A mélange of ladies walked in this body of mine for years untold, unharnessed and dis-remembered. Now at last, these three of me have come...

Falling in Love

And We Are Magnificent!

What remarkable pieces of life we human beings are. We are blood and bone -- an earthy physiology of cells conglomerated into sinew and tissue, powered by positive and negative charges firing to move fluid and muscles in a remarkable "body" machine. The heart beats and hammers. Blood pulses and...

Age Is So Much More than Just a Number!

(0) Comments | Posted March 17, 2014 | 6:20 PM

The current adage that "age is just a number," is a self-serving, reality-numbing piece of pop culture idiocy that we have foisted on ourselves. The sad part is that so many of us buy into this piece of nonsense.
