Wimpy Kid's Love is in the Air Will Be a Global Affair

Posted: Updated:

The release of the seventh volume in Jeff Kinney's Wimpy Kid Series Love is in the Air will definitely be a global event when it is released in November. While at the Bologna Children's Book Fair Kenney announced that following the Nov. 13 U.S. release by his American publisher, Amulet, publishers in The United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Greece, Japan, Korea, and Norway will release the book in their respective territories the day after.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think that Greg Heffley's stories would be enjoyed by kids around the world," said Kinney. "I'm incredibly excited to have the chance to lay down the seventh Diary of a Wimpy Kid book in seven countries at the same time. My international publishers have been supportive of the series from the very start, and it's great to be able to team up with them and create a special moment like this."

In North America, there are more than 60 million Diary of a Wimpy Kid books in print. The series is a fixture on the USA Today bestseller list (the first book in the series has remained in the top 150 for more than 200 weeks) and also on the Wall Street Journal and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. It has remained consistently in the top spots on the New York Times lists since the publication of the first book in 2007. In 2009, Jeff Kinney was named one of the "Time 100," TIME magazine's annual list of the most influential people in the world.

Internationally, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series has hit bestseller lists in Germany, the U.K., Australia, Norway, Israel, the Netherlands, and Italy. Recognized by several major awards in Europe and abroad and the Diary most recently won the Blue Peter award in the U.K. for the best children's book of the last decade.
