A Secretary of Labor with Moxie

I support Mary Beth Maxwell for Secretary of Labor.

My understanding of the purpose of the Department of Labor is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, to improve their working conditions, and to advance their opportunities for profitable employment.

Mary Beth Maxwell has spent her entire career fulfilling the mission of the Department of Labor.

I have known Mary Beth for several years, and have had the benefit of working with her on several projects. I find her a person of incredible integrity and dignity. She is both an articulate advocate of workers rights; and a leader who challenges a CEO/President to be a responsible employer.

Mary Beth and I have a common vision; that a robust middle class with shared prosperity is good for America. I am sure we would agree on the need to alter policies which have fostered an unsustainable decline in real wages for workers. As Secretary of Labor, Mary Beth Maxwell would be the principal adviser to the President on the development and execution of those policies.

In addition, the Secretaries role is to enforce the laws which directly effect workers. American Rights at Work, under Maxwell's' leadership has; monitored broken labor laws, demanded accountability by violators, and exposed the failings of the DOL. Maxwell has moxie.

I am supporting Mary Beth Maxwell for Secretary of Labor because; she has been a daring force in uniting responsible business leaders, labor and community allies to guard workers rights. She has been an irrefutable voice of workers; and I trust her to champion that voice during this economic crisis.

Mary Beth Maxwell has judicious vision and can bring the authentic change needed at the Department of Labor.

The DOL is entrusted with the calculation of numerous indices. Included are many that impact our the daily lives of most Americans. Included are the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the Unemployment Rate and now various Health Cost indices.

The point is that the CPI is used as the standard for Social Security annual increases and also by many employers in reviewing raises for their workers. It's also a measure of the rate of inflation. The statistical calculations performed by the DOL are flawless. However, the Bureau is constantly changing weighting averages that ultimately cause a misstatement of the index. By deflating the CPI, the government and employers are able to minimize wage maintenance by the middle class. I've followed the numbers for the past and can attest to the bias of calculations.

I hope the new Secretary of Labor will return Bureau to an impartial standard bearer that serves the people's interests.

What part of the Constitution gives the government the authority to intervene in a labor agreement between a business and their employees?

If a business offers a position at their company people are free to accept or decline that offer. What part of this is any of the government's business?

RWM

If you think that we can get out of this mess without our govt's intervention then maybe you need to go back in the Marine Corps (if you are not already benefitting from the socialism that the Dept of Defense offers to all of its members)

I don't say that lightly because I am a CDR in the Navy and I know how "lucky" I am to be an employee of the Department of Defense.... I get free healthcare and a paycheck twice a month...I am soon going to be retired and I will pay around 400 dollars a year for my healthcare insurance and i will get all my prescription drugs for free or a nominal co-pay if I do them mail order... I will get my retirement pay at half my CDR pay which will allow me to live pretty good because I don't live beyond my means....

You and I have benefitted from the largest socialistic agenda in the USA and you have the audacity to say that the one last manufacturing industry doesn't deserve a fracking LOAN????????

This industry accounts for so many jobs that it is essential to remain a viable industry..... Maybe you are living on that socialistic DoD income so you don't give a flying fig about what happens to the rest of the USA...

I do.. and we need to keep this industry robust and growing

Maxwell would be a terrific Secretary of Labor.

It will be delightful to bid goodbye to Elaine Chao (Mrs. Mitch McConnell), who has served ably for 8 years as Secretary AGAINST Labor.
