Edwards Makes Two Inspired Hires

News broke today that the John Edwards campaign signed up Paul Blank and Chris Kofinis as senior campaign advisors. This is an inspired move on Edward's part, and much more imaginative than simply picking fights with Ann Coulter. Paul and Chris headed up 'Wake Up Wal-Mart,' the union backed campaign against Wal-Mart, which is where I got to know them.

Back when Wal-Mart and I got along, I would show up at the 'Wake Up Wal-Mart' bus tour appearances to argue Wal-Mart's point of view. Paul and Chris always acted professionally and cordially to my repeated annoying appearances. I got to watch them work up close, and they were focused in their message, and relentless in its delivery. Reporters I talked to today who cover the Wal-Mart beat were wondering aloud what life is going to be like not getting a Kofinis phone call every single day.

Paul and Chris are younger than I, and after interacting and talking with them, I figured they were destined for greater things. Wal- Mart's entire defense campaign was essentially a reaction to these two, and when you can hold the attention of the world's largest corporation for two years, you have abilities any campaign would value.

Campaign bookmakers should spend the afternoon adjusting the odds, because they just changed.
