Experience vs. Inspiration

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

When I fly in an airplane I want the pilot with the most experience, not the one who can inspire hope in me that I get to where I am going. When I pay my taxes, I want the person filing them to be experienced, not the new person who inspires hope in me that he can do the job. When I hire someone to fix my washing machine, I want the tried and true experienced person, not the one who inspires me to hope that he can fix it. When I go to the doctor I do not want to get the one who inspires hope in me that s/he can cure what's wrong, but the one who knows what the hell to do the minute I call. It's not really the job of a public servant to inspire, but to get the job that the people demand done. The democrats think that if they have hope and are inspired things will get better, but they actually won't. When Oprah makes her employees sign her fifty page non-disclosure statement, she doesn't "hope" they can't break it, she pays teams of experienced lawyers to MAKE SURE they can't break it, or be sued in an experienced court by an experienced judge.

When I fly in a plane I want a pilot that did not vote for the Iraq war. When I go the doctor, I want a doctor that did not vote for the Iraq war. When I call someone to fix my washing machine, I prefer someone who did not vote for the Iraq war.

The vote by numerous D-senators was to force Sadam’s hand in getting WMD inspectors back into the country. Our President abused his authority. Would you have with held the option of military action from John F. Kennedy in 1962 during the Soviet missile crisis ?
Think rationally and not to just election rhetoric
“At 7 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 1962, President Kennedy appeared on television to inform Americans of the recently discovered Soviet military buildup in Cuba including the ongoing installation of offensive nuclear missiles.
The President had learned of the buildup on October 16, when he was shown aerial photos taken by an American U-2 spy plane over Cuba, located just ninety miles off the coast of Florida.
On October 18, President Kennedy had conferred with Soviet Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrei Gromyko, who stated the weapons were for defensive purposes only. The President then met with top military aides and his brother Robert to discuss possible military options. Secret recording of their meeting (10/18/62) - 2:12
Sunday, October 21, the President spent the entire day conferring with his advisers. Two main military options were under consideration - a surgical air strike against the bases or a naval blockade of Cuba” ref: History Place http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/jfk-cuban.htm

Considering this war is a huge fiasco (unless you drink kool-aid and believe we're winning) and it's weakened our military and our economy (unless you believe things have never been better), I don't see how the statement is idiotic. To some people, this war and the candidates' positions about it are the deciding factor, and rightly so. Surfcity, I have a question for you: have you served in the military, were you against the war all along or only when it became clear it was badly mismanaged?

Well, when *I* fly in an airplane, I want the pilot who's willing to admit that handing the controls over to a special needs chimpanzee who proceeds to crash the plane into the ground is a, say it with me, "mistake."

Failing that, I want the pilot who will at the very least not hand the controls over to the chimp a second time.

We know Hillary. That's the problem.

Yes Roseanne, and many doctors back in the 80s did not treat ulcers with antibiotics-choosing to adhere to thier old ways(antacids, bland diet).
When laparoscopic surgeries occurred-many MDs still opted for doing entire surgical processes that required longer surgeries and hoispital stays.

Sometimes hanging onto old ways are not necessarily the best.
What if Henry ford thought the same as you do-that new things cannot happen..or Edison, or GW Carver, or MLK...?
It's precisely becasue of the ability to DREAM and FOLLOW-THROUGH-that these things have happened.
You're cynicism is showing.

Oh, you mean experience being on the board of Wal-Mart? Experience voting for war on Iraq? Experience voting for the Iran resolution? Experience failing miserably with healthcare? Experience with Whitewater? Experience extolling the virtues of NAFTA? That's not experience I"m interested in and being older doesn't make one more qualified, it just makes them older, and in this case, more out of touch.

I'm voting for Obama based on both judgment and experience, judgment being the more important of the two.

While I may admire some of Hillary Clinton's history, it seems to me that most of the time she has been a go-along to get-along type senator.

And, of course, the vote giving Bush authority to attack Iraq is the corker. That particular experience drives home the need for judgment the first time around.

I went to see Obama speak. Lot of people showed up. How is that his fault that it became a big rally? Every time she unfairly attacks him and I feel it is wrong, it makes me go and donate so i can help him defeat her, how is that his fault?
She attacked him about his lines: He said, my friend gave it to me, I made a mistake I should have given him the credit.

What is wrong with saying: I supported NAFTA, my intentions were noble, it did not work out and now I know better.
Or I did and I still believe in free trade but fair trade, never again, will there be a deal that is unfair.

What is wrong with saying: I do propose that everyone contribute so all are insured, some call it mandate, I call it a privilege to live in a compassionate society with health care for all. And if you cannot afford it, we will cover you, just like senator obama plan does.

Too honest and straight forward, is it Senator Clinton? Suits the Messiah with the delusional followers-------

Lets us go donate, and make sure the messiah wins and the people from the middle and north of the country who stood in freezing temperatures to vote for him are not disfranchised.

Let us go and donate so that " We the delusional will be called the AMERICAN PEOPLE< YOUNG AND OLD, WHITE AND BLACK, ASIAN AND HISPANIC, DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS, MEN AND WOMEN WHO CAME, VOTED IN DROVES FOR THE DEMOCRATIC TICKET, INSPIRED BY PRESIDENT OBAMA AND CHANGED THE AMERICAN POLITICAL LANDSCAPE.

How is that for a change that we believe in? Can we? NOOOO say the Hillary lovers: do not dream, the republicans are here to stay, their machinery is too strong, Rush Limbaugh is too powerful, you guys are being fed false hopes, no one except Senator Clinton can beat the republican machine. But do not count on her inspiring you, for that is below her. Read her record, she knows the issues, and ignore her hateful rhetoric, ignore her temper tantrums, she has been working hard all her life for this, so that all the women could feel that men are not sexist anymore, so the glass ceiling could be lifted. See the light yourself, you ignorant, delusional, dreamers, republicans, independents, young democrats, old fools, vote for her, just do not come out to listen to her or we will call you a movement. We are cynics, realists, anti movement democrats, who hate you all. If it was not for you she would be our nominee and guess what, she is a fighter and she would have won anyway. She does not need to inspire, she does not believe in word but action and solutions. Who needs more democrats in the house and Senate? She can rule with one vote majority. She is the girl we have been waiting for.

So I have a choice. Go back to the hole I crawled out of, accept the republican dominance of ideas, accept that things will remain the same, forget I felt inspired to be part of something bigger for the first time, accept that I had been duped and had become delusional. Loose all hope for hope is always just that , Hope. The world can never get together. Republicans and Democrats can never work together. The dream of bringing the world on a table is delusional. The Iranians can only be tamed by bombing. They will never wisen up, even if we stop being a bully. All Muslims are Islamic Fascist Terrorists. They are warmongers and we are in a third world war with them. Do not believe in the false hope that this war can ever end with dialogue. They have to be eliminated. Do not hope for a better future for our children. This is all baloney. Let us elect a president who does not believe in changing the nations mind about misguided conservatism. Who cannot inspire by her speeches to make people believe that they can be better than the sum of their genetically controlled selfish pursuit of dog eat dog capitalism. Come to that conclusion on your own. If you believe in that because you were inspired by the empty words of a messiah like cult producing leader then you are not worthy of your betterment anyway. This country and the world can only be changed by policy manuals, relying on loyal non confrontational, lackey cabinet members who will follow the experience and wisdom of a woman who has been studying the issues for 35 years.

Or I can Hope that change is possible, that words inspire, that people can come together , and the world can be a better place without war. ( Do I stop here and let these words of hope and Change Stand or explain all the above again, for some leaders and their followers will once again call them empty rhetoric ------- oh my , how can we ever win against this Clinton machine ).
I turned out to be a realist and cynic after all. May be just go and vote for Ralph, because change and hope are empty words anyway.

Lovely analogy! However, a pilot doesn't have to motivate or inspire people to be fully effective. We're talking about the political arena here. In Mr. Obama, we see a once-in-a-lifetime candidate with an extraordinarily rare gift for inspiring people, not just in America but around the world.

Inspiration matched with plenty of smarts and a knowledge of human nature to bring us together, build consensus and get things DONE. False hopes indeed! =)

The experience of the past year has shown one thing. Obama ran a sounder, more fiscally responsible campaign tha Hillary Clinton, taking on every challenge in every state. He worked with funds from over a million donors to run a campaign that is beholden to no one.

Barack Obama has strong substantive experience. Improving treatment of prisoners in Illinois, curbing the trafficking of nuclear arms and letting in a little more sunlight on the business of our Congress.

He is not all talk, and you know it.

He has run a vivid, meaningful, positive and responsible campaign; while Senator Clinton descended from inevitable to runner-up.

If he runs the country with the grace and intelligence he has invested in his campaign, we will both have a long-delayed opportunity to look to the future with our heads held high. We will back up our hope with action.

Go Obama!

Well, at least we can now vote for Nadar.
He is the only one who has been on the right side of every issue, is uncompromised enough to take on McCain the phony reformer, and truly symbolize the real change from dirty Washington politics.
And imagine how impressed the Arabs would be if we elected a Lebanese president!
Our standing in the world would be instantly increased.

Nader is so dedicated that he has spent the last 7 years doing absolutely nothing except self promotion.

He needs to enter a 12 step program for addiction holding his breath just to get attention.

Both candidates aced flight school.

The question is where will Clinton fly you to?

HRC was the DLC.ORG Chair! You want DLC centrist corporatist policies? Have you bothered to look DLC.ORG up? The pro war half of the dems, the half most of us are really pissed at, are DLC Dems.

OK, you keep flying treetop airlines, barely making it safely every flight. Keep your tight grip on the seat, knowing there is never any hope that you will get a better form of transportation. Sounds like you also are satisfied with Midnight Movers whenever a change is necessary. You don't want hope! Stay in this same old same old. See where it really gets you. Listen to the Obama speeches. There is as much and most times more policy than miss middle of the road, try and please anyone, and attack like a repugnant when she can't provide any hope of her own.

Experience is critically necessary when the job is one where the person can perfom it without any assistance from others. The instant a job changes from a single contributor to a team situation, the qualities of leadership and inspiration outweigh the quality of experience.
Why? Because, it is more important that a team leader be able to direct, motivate and inspire their colleagues than for the individual to be capable of doing the entire job themself.
A president must be able to lead and INSPIRE their staff and the entire country. Hillary would be a great addition to Barack's staff but she is not a leader that can inspire.
