Obama the Thinker and McCain the Sabre-Rattler

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

McCain seemed old and out of date while rattling the Israeli sabre for war with Iran by referencing the Holocaust, which I found to be disturbing and despicable and obsolete, as are all of his militaristic solutions that underline every issue he addresses.

I found Obama to be a lithe thinker who is open to solutions and new thought. I found him to be inclusive in his comments while McCain was exclusive, and had that familiar Republican sneer that is a required accessory for his demographic. McCain was mining the old "compassionate conservative" con, and referencing the author of the failure of our economy right now, whose name was Ronald Reagan. That McCain stands on top of the heap of rubble that Reagan put into economic play and speaks reverentially of him still just says it all!

Trickle down economics is when the rich piss on the poor, and John McCain thinks that's swell. Obama tried to remind Americans of what is morally right and what is morally wrong, and that was fantastic to witness. McCain defends the status quo instead of the moral right.

"trickle down economics is when the rich piss on the poor." About a fine a summary as I'd ever hope to read.

BTW, Roseanne, your show remains the only one that was ever honest about the lives of blue-collar Americans. You know, before the lottery horseshit.

Roseanne, I've been a fan of yours since before your Garbanzo Beans commercial for Pizza Hut; CLASSIC!

I used to respect John McCain. I wouldn't have voted for him, but I respected him for taking stands against his own party on occasion. Unfortunately for him, but fortunately for us, he's sold his soul to Bush's Brain (the same pile of concentrated fecal matter that used his child to stoke the ugly fires of racial hatred against him in 2000) in his megalomaniacal quest for POWER. I find it fitting that he and his campaign are UNSPOOLING just like Katherine Harris' Senate bid in '06.

Instant Karma's gonna get you!

I agree. McCain is a hothead. What I worry about is that McCain has a Nuclear Temper.

I think it is important to remember that during the Republican primaries even Pat Buchanan said:

" McCain will make Cheney look like Ghandi." -- Pat Buchanan

I graduated high school in '72 and fortunately never was drafted or had to serve in Vietnam. I know a lot of guys who did though, and all of them are screwed up in some way. Some physically, all emotionally. Some of them are friends but none would ever be stable enough to command an army or a country. I can't imagine what a mess you would be if you were imprisoned, locked in a cage for years. I feel bad for McCain, I just don't want him in the Oval Office.

My Dad was a Marine in Viet Nam, he left the Jungle 40 years ago, but the Jungle never fully left him until the day he died, and he was never captured and tortured like John McCain. The biggest difference between the two is that my Dad learned the Lessons of the Viet Nam war, John McCain didn't. Also, my Dad did everything he could for his fellow Vets, John McCain didn't and still doesn't.

If McCain can't look Obama in the eye then how can he look another head of state in the eye. Oh, that's right, he won't meet with anyone. He's too good for everyone. I wonder how Cindy McCain is going to deal with the stress in her life.

Obama WAS SOLID in EVERY RESPECT!

OBAMA PROVED HE IS FULLY QUALIFIED TO BE COMMANDER IN CHIEF!

Lets Remember: McFlipFlop

Pat Buchanan calls him "HOT HEADED"
He calls himself a "GAMBLER"
We know he loves "WAR"
We see he is a "FLIPFLOPPER"
He likes to "GAME the AMERICAN PEOPLE"
Prefers "LOOKS over SUBSTANCE" Palin
Indecisive about most EVERYTHING

Do we want a GAMBLING, HOTHEADED trigger finger, WAR LOVING, FLIPFLOPPER, who likes GAMING the system and the AMERICAN PEOPLE to be in control of the President's BUTTONS?

McFlipFlop (Just a FEW!)

Let's have a debate with Roseanne, Howard Stern, and Chris Rock as the moderators.

Lehrer, Ifill, they're all corporate puppets.

This is now the second time I have heard the Holocaust invoked this week by a Republican. A pathetic new tactic. (Not a strategy...a tactic.) I expect Iran to be attacked right after the election and before Obama takes office. George Bush didn't tell Isreael no, he told them to wait.

McCain clearly suffers from intellectual fatigue syndrome......like most of his supporters who are the uninformed voting block of the bible thumping patriotic right. This is why the race is soo close, that there is still a dangerous amount of them hanging on to the "message" of the 04' and 00' Republican campaigns.....

McCain has not psychologically recovered from his experiences as a former POW. His intense, narrow, obssesive focus on "winning this war" is his misguided panacea for old wounds. Our country is experiencing one of the worst financial crises in decades and McCain's lack of financial flexibility, vision and dexterity highlights where his heart truly lies: warmongering at the great expense of hardworking Americans. It is time for change. Time to redirect all energies, efforts and resources BACK INTO America NOT OUT of America. In a time when so many jobs are being outsourced, McCain will continue to follow suit by outsourcing the American dream and leave us all souless , barren and bankrupt.

The repubs still deliver the politics of fear, and the ignorant buy it. Very sad. Did anyone catch when Lehrer said to Obama "look at McCain when you talk?" It sounded to me like "Listen Boy, look at McCain when you talk." (Im not black either) It was condescending especially since McCain never even looked at Obama when commenting. Way to go Lehrer. A good reporter should not show biases.

Kalie, excellent point about Lehrer's statement to Obama. I'm embarrassed to admit that while I was annoyed by it I still let it sail right past me. It begs the question, "Why didn't he give McCain the same instructions especially since McCain never once looked at Obama?"

That one statement defined Jim Lehrer better than anything anyone else could ever say.

I miss Tim Russert more every day.

In all fairness, Lehrer said that very early on in the debate, before it was apparent that McCain was snubbing Obama to the extreme.

I would also like to mention that if you were watching C-SPAN instead of the networks, 15 minutes before the debates started, Lehrer addressed the audience in the same condescending manner. It really rubbed me the wrong way the way he spoke to the audience...like they were children.

I doubt there was racial bias in his comments. It may have only been his inflated ego coming through.

It's actually a sign of the times, back in the day audiences at debates didn't scream & shout & cheer & boo & hiss at the candidates. They were there to hear, IN DETAIL, what the candidates have to say, to compare & contrast the candidates. CorporateMedia has made politics all about the sound bite, instead of being about big-picture policy.

You know, that point went right by me too. I am going to watch on of the replays and look at that again. I was so focused on how "crazy" Mc Gaffe looked, right out of the gate, that the actions of the moderator did not register. I do know that he did not give the "POW" any instructions on how to respond to his opponent.

Silly.
What Lehrer was attempting to do was engage both in give and take without continual prompting, in other words, to promote real debate rather than a Q&A session. Obama looked at McCain continually through the debate; McCain never looked at Obama after the first few minutes.
If you've ever watched Lehrer's Newshour, the gem of all television news, you would know that Jim is as unbiased as anyone could be.

I don't think it's that silly. That prompt from Lehrer irked me too because it did seem directed at Sen. Obama. Then, he also seemed to let Sen. McCain ramble too long about earmarks. And, when Sen. McCain wouldn't look at Obama after that prompt in the beginning, Lehrer might have given him a nudge, no? Lehrer had a lot to keep track of and perhaps it was unintended but those cheering on Sen. Obama probably noticed.

mccain was sending a powerful message to his american jewish donors. He used the platform of the debates to do that...american jews give money every time you reference the holocaust. barack's fundraisers give money every time he references nuclear energy...they are his major donors.

I never heard of American-Italians, or American-Irish, so who are these American Jews? The defining word is American, not the qualifiying ethnic group one happens to belong to. I prefer Jewish Americans to American Jews. American Jews like Lieberman scare the hell out of me.

You haven't heard of them because they're called Italian Americans and Irish Americans. Likewise Jewish Americans.
You also appear to be ill informed about the allegiances these groups have to their motherlands. When the Irish conflict between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland raged not that many years ago, there were active fundraisers in New York for both groups, but mainly the Greens (Catholics), and a little gunrunning as well for Sein Fein, if I remember correctly.

"American Jews like Lieberman scare the hell out of me." - American Jews scare me as badly as American Cubans, like Joe LIEberman's pal, Ileana Ros-Leithen. When I think of these folks, the phrase "America First" couldn't be further from my mind.
