If you're anything like most Americans, you find sex to be an unspeakably shameful subject for public discussion. Luckily, an altruistic league of writers known as The Association For The Betterment Of Sex have written a manual for the sexually interested and the erotically curious, and in doing so have created the most comprehensive guide to doin' it in recent memory: "Sex: Our Bodies, Our Junk." Fans of "The Daily Show," "The Onion," Conan O'Brien and humor as a medium of entertainment will be pleased to learn that the Association is comprised of writers from the above, as well a few other like-minded collaborators.
Their book is a parody of vintage sex guides such as "Our Bodies, Ourselves" and "The Joy of Sex," except if those books' authors were entirely uninformed about the very basic logistics of sexual intercourse. Its strength lies in the heights of absurd misunderstanding maintained with a straight face throughout the book, which also features guest contributions from comedy ringers such as Michael Kupperman, Alison Silverman, and Andy Richter and Sarah Thyre (who teamed up for the introduction).
Four of the authors (Scott Jacobson, Jason Roeder, Mike Sacks and Ted Travelstead, with the final Sex Better-er Todd Levin arriving later) recorded a radio program on behalf of the book for SIRIUS XM's Raw Dog Comedy on Tuesday, September 21st, and I had the pleasure of sitting in the studio with them and talking to them about the book afterward.
