Roxana Shirazi is the author of The Last Living Slut: Born in Iran, Bred Backstage, an acidic concoction of a politically and sexually active childhood in Iran during the revolution and the Iran/Iraq war. She tasted prison as a child with her intensely politically active family, child abuse and daily Qur'an lessons. Sent to England at the age of 10, she learned to speak English and eventually found herself a new home backstage/sidestage with rock bands. Tour buses were her shelter and rockstars her meat. She lived two secret lives: one as an academic speaking at women's conferences about gender and globalization, studying her MA and teaching at university, and one as a sexually-wild nympho with rock bands on the road. This utopian playground that she had thought rock 'n' roll was supposed to be turned out to be not so wild in the end, and after pushing boundaries, bloody love, pain, abortion and teenage bands, and making rock stars do stuff that scared them, she got bored...
