Back when I was in college, three of my buddies came to visit me in the hospital as I recovered from pneumonia.
One of them was Jack Ford. Jack's father was then House Minority Leader, Gerald Ford.
Ford came to our campus a few months ago and went out with a few of us for beers.
Then came the events of Watergate, Ford's accidental Presidency, and the regrettable pardoning of Nixon.
But despite Ford's mistakes, he was of a pro-environment, pro-choice stripe that we don't get from Republicans today. He was not evil.
I never voted for Ford, but this was an ordinary guy placed into extraordinary circumstances.
In terms of presidents, our nation has been served far worse.
Like now.
