I am a big fan. Usually you and I are in pretty close agreement. However, please stay away from the sports analogies. Saturday on CNN I heard you say "he hit the ball right out of the gate."
I'm sorry, but in racking my brain the only sport I can think of in which you "hit the ball right out of the gate" is croquet. And properly the "gates" are called wickets. So this may not apply.
The reason I bring this up is not to bust your chops. My problem with your inane analogy is that the error covered up an otherwise salient point. Any progress you had made with your statement was totally upstaged by your unfortunate statement. So please, stay away from sports. Leave that to the frustrated jocks. Talk like a girl. We still like that. You don't have to smoke cigars either just because you want to be one of the boys. You are plenty respected as a girl.
I know this post did not exactly "hit the ball right out of the gate", but it just might keep you out of a sticky wicket.
