Palin Says Something Smart

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

I have spent this election season criticizing Sarah Palin. But I feel that in fairness I must say I finally heard her say something smart. Which just proves that no matter how much lipstick you smear on a blind pig, he can find an acorn now and then.

What Sarah the "maverick" said that impressed me was said in an interview of which I saw only a clip. But she was asked by Elizabeth Vargas if she were to lose this election, would she ever run for high office again? Had she taken so much abuse that she would just forget about ever repeating the experience?

Sarah actually gave an articulate answer that I wholeheartedly agree with. She said in so many words, that if she weren't tough enough to take the criticism that she had no business in this election. That of course she would consider running again.

Now, I certainly have nightmares about Palin running for dogcatcher much less anything larger in scope. But I am glad that she realizes that she is playing in the big leagues and must have the strength to take at least as much as she dishes. And she stepped up this time. And because it is absolutely the first time that I have found anything of value in what she has said, I felt she should get equal time. It is only fair.

Finally, after speeches, sound bytes, bad interviews where she sounded like a badly programmed computer voice she put some lipstick on that blind pig of a campaign. And lo and behold, she missed the oak tree but she discovered an acorn.

It was the right answer to give to preserve her chances to be a candidate in the next elections but to frame the electoral campaign as an energetic pinata beating allows her to falsly equate the legitimate questions that have been raised about her competencies and ethics with the smear campaign thrown a Obama, there's nothing admirable about that.

The media shouldn't give a pass to the candidates that unleash the most vicious arguments while depicting it as a good humored brawl to escape the scorn they deserve for such tactics - The Hillary kitchen-sink tactic was a masterpiece in its genre

Wasn't this the interview where she was given the topics before hand?
